Travel and Vacation :)

Hi All,

I have had the privilege to travel to some scenic locations throughout my lifetime. My favourite place in the whole world is actually Amsterdam in The Netherlands, I love it's cultured city, relaxed locals and natural beauty.

I have a business trip scheduled in July to attend Britain and a few Scandinavian countries but my question to you all is;

Where is your favourite place in the world, and why? or even; What is your favourite travel/vacation memory? if you want to reminisce.

I look forward to reading your answers, my beautiful friends! :)

Thanks for your input dear! I loved reading that reply! It sounded so beautiful and magical to be in a foreign country, yet feel so safe and at home with your daddy!

I've always wanted to go to Hungary but never got around to it! I will certainly have to make some time :) Sushi is your special food now :D Whenever you eat Sushi you can think of him!

I think when travelling, especially around europe, expensive hotels aren't necessarily the priority, and that simple accommodation is all that is required because there is so much to see and experience!

Thanks again for the input!

Oh yay a travel thread! For my parents' 25th wedding anniversary this past summer, my family went on a 3 week trip all over the Mediterranean. It was all so gorgeous. I had so much fun taking lots of pictures and I hope that they do the sights I saw justice. It was the first time just my nuclear family travelled alone without any help (my sister has special needs) and I will always have such fond memories of this trip.

Funny to hear Amsterdam is so loved, I live there (or well, in a town that pretty much glued against it) and study there. It doesn't feel that special to me, even though some of the buildings are quite pretty.

I really like the UK, the atmosphere there somehow makes me feel at home. I'd love to go to the United States sometime, to Japan and New Zealand for the stunning nature. But for the time being there's no money for that so I'll stick to Europe :)

I've always liked traveling, but I've only really been around the US/Mexico and Caribbean.  If I had the money I'd go to every country if I could.

Places I've been so far:

US

Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, DC, West Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands

Candada

Mexico

Jamaica

Bahamas

Cayman Islands

Saint Martin

I would really love to go to Japan, the Italy, France, the UK, Sweeden, The Maldives, Iceland, Kenya, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, and Antarctica... I'm sure I forgot a ton but that's all I could think of off the top of my head  ;)

Great thread, Mr. A

I think the most scenic city I have visited has to be Lucerne, Switzerland.  I had the opportunity to do a little traveling in Europe while stationed in Germany with the US Army.  Germany was quite beautiful as well, but the city of Lucerne was amazing.  These days, I mostly tend to desire sun, surf and sand.  Mexico has become one of my favorite places.  Specifically, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta.  Cabo San Lucas is quite arid and Puerto Vallarta has lush jungles slightly interior to the coast.  I was able to visit the site where the first Predator movie was filmed, starring the former governor of California, you remember him, right?

I've been around England where I live, and to Berlin for a few days on a school trip. I'm also going to Kenya in July/August. After all my studying is done, I so hope I can travel! A few months going around Europe would be amazing. I'm jealous of all the places you have been!

What is everyone's favourite place in their own home country?

All of those pictures look REALLY nice. I'm jealous. I'd love to go to Greece.

Thanks doodles! I'd been working on my photography and I'm really pleased with how they came out. (If you do go, try to avoid July- it was so hot I thought I'd melt and there's no shade hardly anywhere!)

Thanks for your contribution Dave, it's of a high quality as always. You must have done some travelling with the US Army and to experience the beauty of Lucerne would have truly been one of your treats. Magnificent stuff! I agree with you about the Sun, Surf and Sand! I think it's most definitely needed in our lives these days to relax and enjoy the beauties that life has to offer! Mexico is on my list of places to visit! If I ever get there, I'll give you a shout and I'll buy you a round of tequilas!

I was actually there in late July, early August last year, and it's true, it does get hot, but is so beautiful! In particular the Greek Islands, Mykonos is my Second favourite destination in the world :D

Thanks for the replies everyone! There's some amazing photography and stories to view.

I travel a lot alone. My favorite place in the world is Taiwan! The people are so warm-hearted, the nature is astonishingly beautiful, it's safe and good place to be in.. It simply feels like my home. I've been there three times, traveled around the whole island twice and can't wait to go back to explore more, and meet all my friends there. Another place which I will never forget is Shenzhen in China. I was there doing voluntary work for three months, and fell in love with the city although it's.. well, nothing about China is that fancy. I still loved all the rugged little places and all the people who kept smiling although life is really tough there. My holidays in Japan have been precious since I got to see my favorite band's concerts, but it's really not my favorite place to be.. I've worked in the northern Norway where the nature once again was extremely beautiful, and those memories are happy ones. Also, couple of months that I spent living in Liverpool were really important to me too, I thought the place was really homely. I cherish all the places I've visited and all the journey's I've made! Traveling is essential to me..

Well unfortunately I do not have a favorite place in the world. But I hope that in the near future I can create some great memories while visiting some wonderful and spectacular places around the world. Two places I would like to visit first are:Pink Sands Beach @ Harbour Bahamas & Punaluú Beach @ Hawaii Island( black sand beach)

after reading what Rosie wrote it helped me to remember i went pin a cruise some time between the summer of 2010 &2011. Again not much fun. The highlight for me was getting my face painted and the food. Not much planned activities our sight seeing once off the boat.

I am not a big travel person. I love New York City for vacation, but other than that I stick to Nevada and California...my two favorite places in the world. My favorite places are Reno, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. Las Vegas is also cool for a vacation.

My favorite place is Paris. But right after that comes Barcelona and then London. I love these cities.

I didn't travel a lot yet, but I visited:

Prague, Czech Republic

China (Shanghai, Beijing)

Vienna, Austria

Barcelona, Spain

Paris, France

Brussels, Belgium

Netherlands (Utrecht, Amsterdam, Venlo, Den Haag, Schreveningen)

England (London)

And I love travelling still. I hope I get to go to

México

Brasil

USA (NYC, LA, Miami, Tampa, San Francisco)

Egypt

Italy

Sweden

Denmark

Norway

Australia

New Zealand

one day...but right now I rarely have the money for a trip to Paris and that is quite cheap from my city. But I am going back there this year again and I am excited.

This year I went to Edinburgh in my summer vacation, to attend The Fringe.
I arrived a couple of days early and got to see the city before it was filled with tourists - and I just loved it. The people there is awesome, the architecture and history of the city is wonderful. I went hiking as well in The West Highland Way - which was just gorgeus :) So all in all i just love Scotland and would love to come back someday.

A couple of years ago I went to visit a penpal I met on youtube, she lived pretty far up in Norway (in Vang) which was also an amazing experience. We went hiking and rode horses through the wonderful nature - really one of the most gorgeus places I've been.

I also really love Berlin and Oslo!

Some day I really do want to visit the US and so Yosemite and Grand Canyon - just to name a few. And Canada.

I love to travel. If I could, I would have found a way to make a living out of it. There's just something about getting lost in new places that help you rediscover things about yourself you lose track of in the familiar. I'm not too sure how to explain it, but it's almost like you're forced to be secure in who you are because everything else is different. Then there's all the new experiences. New foods, smells, textures, sights and sounds. Talk about a buffet for your senses. Ugh, it's just great.

I've been fortunate enough to do quite bit of traveling, but hands down my favorite place to be is Mexico City. The city is huge and there's just something about seeing ancient ruins in some areas and then modern cityscapes in another that reminds you there was a time long before you ever existed, which is really humbling and makes your problems seem ephemeral. Then there's my family. They shuffle me to and from new places, and it doesn't matter how many times I go because there's always something new I have yet to see. And don't even get me started on the food. Sure Tex Mex is fine and all, but it pales in comperison to my tías' cooking. If you ever get a chance to eat tacos de cochinita pibil, take it! I can't promise they'll be just as good, but they should still be fantastic.

Last time I went there were two experiences that I really loved. One was going to see a live lucha libre match, which is basically wrestling with mask. I generally don't like that sort of thing, but something about lucha libre matches are just great. To me, they seem less hokey than WWE matches, but are still just as ridiculous. Mind you, I don't really watch WWE, so I might be completely out of line. Then I also got to spend some time in Coyoacán. It has a plaza that has that old colonial look to it and is full of people either lounging on benches or bustling through those taking in the sites. We went at night to eat pozole (another great dish) and drink coffee. There were people playing music and others were dancing. Then there were all the street vendors and my cousin, who excitedly pointed out everything he thought I had to observe.

It was just incredible, and I can't wait to go back.
