Question about Tumblr blogs.

A Cuddly Dom

Recommended Posts

I'm generally good about sniffing out answers to just about anthing. But, I am genuinely stumped on this topic. I've had a tumblr blog since I first came to the lifestyle, and it's just now becoming a platform I would like to use more. I even created a second one dedicated to my artistic pursuits recently. These are, of course, NSFW blogs.

Now that I have taken an interest in writing more when my schedule allows, I'm wondering how to get my works noticed? The recent roll-out of the Best Stuff First feature is smothering even the more widely followed kink blogs, by hiding NSFW content under a heap of uninteresting garbage.

Does anyone have any tips about drumming up a following? Perhaps some pointers on the use of tags? I am fairly certain at this point that I am not using them correctly. Any advice would be extremely helpful. Thank you, in advance.

For kink blogs, original content is the best way to go (and for blogs in general, in my experience). Tags should reflect the audience you want to reach, but also how you want your blog organized.

So if you were to write a post on making rules in a CGL dynamic you'd want to use broad tags like bdsm, D/s, submission, etc. But you also want tags like cgl, ddlg, daddy dom, etc. My blog isn't NSFW, so I don't know if there are specific tags for writing versus an image, but I hope this helped!

I also noted a dramatic decline in my visitors since the stupid Best Stuff First option got slapped on there.  Everytime I see a How To regarding how to turn that feature off, I always reblog it.

I agree with Aphrodite and Cr33py .. tag the crap out of your posts and use variations, such as, for instance, DD/lg, ddlg, ageplay, age play, Daddy Dom, DD/lg blog, DDlg blog, DD/lg lifestyle, DDlg lifestyle, spank, spanking, spanked, etc.   Try to think of all the different ways people could type in keywords to search for.

I've even found it helpful to keep a notepad txt file with each tag and it's variations listed, separated by commas, so I can just copy/paste them into the tag line.  LOL  Cuts down on the tagging time if you are a prolific poster there.  :)

Thank you, everyone. I thought part of the problem was that despite my blogs being for adults only, I don't often reblog or post porn. Almost all of my original content is text, mostly articles and musings. I know that a lot of folks just want to see gifs and stills of people doing kinky stuff. I wanted to provide something different.

I have noticed that even popular tags somehow don't provide many results in the search function, even with safe mode turned off. I know tumblr itself is trying to gently choke off adult content and change it's reputation online. I will just keep pushing onward. My first story is waiting for one last chapter, so I will make that my tenative goal for this week.
