CG Advice Wanted: wtf do i eat??

Recommended Posts

I figured this would be the right thread to come to since i’m in need of guidance and where better else than a group of CG’s haha! Anyways, i’m wondering if anyone has food ideas that are healthy (like not super processed or sugary) but are also easy to make? my D loves when i make him breakfast in the morning before he goes to work, but lately i’ve been feeling stuck for ideas. i usually make overnight oats or pancakes, or on the occasion that he lets me make him lunch I’ll do more healthy whole food options. But i’m feeling stuck with breakfast options particularly food ideas that are easy to take on the road too since D has to drive to work. so if anyone has any transportable meal recipes that are 1) whole food options, 2) protein packed, or 3) easy to make i would so gladly appreciate it :3

Well 1) what do you like to eat. Let us eliminate what you don't want. So we have ideas. As one that can be picky with the way I eat. That is why I ask. I know autistics are picky not that you are one.

I've been eating keto for years now. So everything is(supposed) to be protein packed.

I really like egg bites. You can make them in muffin or brownie tins. They freeze well if you make a bunch ahead and you really can be made with any ingredients just like omelettes, but more bite size and portable.

Just an idea.

Honey nut cheerios are a good option. Apples are an excellent choice. they are full of energy and anti-oxidants and lots of varieties,  and can be eaten on the road.

I agree with E, are there foods they don't like that we should rule out?

Food allergies or gluten or dairy issues?

If not, for starters I would suggest waffles. Very portable and you can add anything to the batter just about. Fruit and nuts will add vitamins and protein.

If they are ok with eggs and dairy I'd say venture into chaffles. The perfect drive and snack meal and again your imagination is the only limit.

Romain lettuce wraps wrapped in deli paper for no mess snacking. Mash up an avocado and add a little salt and pepper. Maybe some bacon or nuts for crunch and protein. Roll it and wrap in paper for on the go snacking.

Fresh fruit is always a great go to for super fast and easy.

And if you haven't already I would suggest checking out the tiny kitchen and health and fitness freaks clubs for suggestions.

Here is an idea. Take a bagel or English muffin. Put cheese on it. Put some ham on it. Put an egg or two on it. Scrambled or like an omelets. Maybe a slice of bacon. You can then take it to go with some fruit and orange juice. Being in Boy Scouts I did this stuff.

Here is an idea. Breakfast burritos. Scrambled or like an omelets or scrambled eggs, diced ham, sausage, bacon, onion, pepper, artichoke. cheese. Just like if you were making a omelet. Yet you are putting it in a burrito and you can go if needed. May be messy however if you put too much in it.

👋🏻 well hello !

I have two caregivers and I care for them both in the morning , making their breakfast , coffee and getting their lunch going. Our household is vegan so I’m always coming up with ways to get fresh fruit or veggies / protein into my men.

They can admittedly be hard to make breakfast for because like your D , they both drive to work and need something easy to eat if they don’t have time to eat it before leaving the house. They BOTH also have a ridiculous sweet tooth -____- So when I ask what they want for breakfast / their wants aren’t exactly what they NEEEED… lol.

These are some easy things I throw together for my men in the mornings - some are healthier than others but they are all easy to eat in the go.

* Keep in mind we use vegan ingredients but you can use whatever fits your families needs.

1. Breakfast bagel / English muffin (Savory)

Toast a bagel , add some mayo (or whatever their fav condiments are) or cream cheese , cook down some ham or sausage with some egg and make your own McMuffin basically. They can fit into sandwich bags or be wrapped in cling wrap.

2. Bagel , sweet style

Toast bagel , add cream cheese and a touch of whipped cream and get them mixed together really well and shmear it all over the bagel. Add their favorite fruits cut up , strawberries , blueberries , kiwi , cut up peaches ect. BOOM ! Super sweet but also had fruit so kinda healthy , breakfast sandwich ! If they like dried fruit this also works well.

3. Onigiri 🍙

This is one I pre make on a Sunday and it can last a couple days. Make white rice , make sweet eggs (you can find recipes everywhere for sweet egg , I just add a touch of soy sauce and sugar to mine) and try your best to get them into those little squares or just lumps of egg basically hahaha. That sounds so stupid but I hope it makes sense. Add a protein like chopped ham , cooked tofu , sausage ect , and form it inside the rice to make onigiri , I’ll tag a super easy video for reference. The video I’m tagging is like level 1 of onigiri making and doesn’t involve shaping the rice.

4. Tamagoyaki

Another simple egg bite style dish. I use my hands to eat a lot so if he doesn’t mind that this should be fine. You can add tamagoyaki to anything basically.

5. Breakfast croissant roll ups.

Forgive me for finding you videos - I am so tired and I feel like it’s more effective than trying to explain my vegan versions 😅

6. Avocado toast.

Pretty simple , high grain and oat bread , avocado , and whatever topping he might like. You can just make it a sandwich instead of literal toast too , my men like avocado sandwiches with alfalfa sprouts , tomato , egg , spinach , sriracha , salt and pepper. Avocado fats are really good for your heart.

7. Breakfast bentos.

If he is driving this might be more difficult for him to eat - but I am all about being cost effective , smart with my time in the kitchen , and prepping for the week. These kinds of bentos are really helpful for when you’re so tired in the morning all you want to do is throw food at their face and go lay back down.

If I have any more ideas pop into my head I’ll be sure to put them in here !

I don't really have a recipe for this but I make oat bars using dates oats and freeze dried fruit. You can add protein powder to the mix to add protein.  Your have to boil the dates first to soften them up. It's recommended to use a food processor to make a date paste then mix in the ingredients. It can be very sticky so adding protein powder my help reduce the stickiness. Put them in a sheet pan to set and then cut into squares. Once cut wrap them in parchment paper or wax wrap.

I have been tackling my own meal prepping this year to be more whole foods and high protein with the supervision of my trainer/dietician. This is what I have gathered for myself.

p.s. Veggies can be sneaked in for extra filling and nutrition. For egg I like to have bell peppers, potato, onions, mushrooms, bits of spinach or kale. For smoothies you can add veggies that don't have much of a taste to blend in easy such as zucchini, spinach, greens (strawberry tops, beet leaves, radish greens), and sometimes kale.

We have a Cooking Club on here with a Breakfast section that members have shared recipes. Take a look and see what you like! Breakfast - DDlg Forum & Community Breakfast doesn't have to be made fresh every morning. You can prep the night before or even a week ahead that can be stored in the freezer. Hope this helps!!

I make some breakfast sandwiches for myself in the weekends. For those I use whole grain bread, then some cheese and on top of that some home grown rocket salad leaves, a few tomato slides and some radishes. I season it with some chives and oregano. Super healthy and delicious.

The breakfast I made my spoiled men today

These are easy to eat on the go especially if you wrap the bottom of them for sauce drips !

Toast some bagels - I cooked up some vegan ham and cheese , vegan Mayo with verde sauce and boom. Two happy men with full bellies and we can go on with our lives without them being hangry :)

First of all do you know if your D has any allergies or dietary restrictions. Him having an anaphylactic reaction is no good for either of you.

I know it doesn't sound romantic but try planning out several days in advance to make sure you have the right food to prepare. It could be that you have most of ingredients already in the cupboard, but not having that one item (e.g., pudding rice for a desert) could really ruin the mood and the fun of preparing it ready for him.

Plan special breakfasts for the weekend - you can take your time in enjoying it and each other's company without having to rush off to work.

Don't discard left overs as they can be used to revive memories of wonderful times (boiled potatoes, cabbage, carrots and other items can be used to make a lovely bubble-and-squeak).

If you prepare his lunch: Potato or pasta salads are different. Mini picnics either together or for lunch in the office. Adding an unexpected note underneath sandwiches is a wonderful surprise.

Just a few thoughts.
