Has anyone here ever been hacked and had pictures or videos stolen?

My old middle S texted me yesterday and sent me a screenshot of a text she received.  It was from an international number and included a xxx picture of she and I from several years ago and basically said they wanted to work something out to stop pics from going on the internet.

I know she was locked out of her phone by a hacker several years ago and I assume they had access to all of her pictures and files.   Does anyone have experience with something like this?

Thanks so much for your thorough and insightful response.  I feel so sad that she has to deal with this and know this will set off her anxiety/panic issues.  She has a new boyfriend, but I’ve offered to do anything that I can for her.   I will pass this info on to her. Thanks again.
