Hurricane aftermath and dock worker strike and how it could affect you

This is not a post to scare you into rushing out and buying a ton of stuff.

Just a reminder that due to the massive damage to certain areas from the hurricane, and the dock workers being on strike, things may start being harder to find or take longer to get.

If the strike lasts 1 week you may not see a whole lot of change but there will be some. But for every week the strike continues you will see less on the shelves and longer delivery times on goods that you are able to order. Think about the store shelves and deliveries a couple years ago and shop accordingly.

In my opinion if you can buy a little extra of something next time you shop I would.

Personally I would treat it like stocking up for a storm and just get extra essentials just in case. I don't think this strike will drag on that long but you never know.

  • Fruits and veggies can be frozen
  • Meat can be frozen
  • Canned goods last ages
  • Rice and dried beans last
  • First aid supplies
  • Over the counter medicines
  • Toiletries
  • Batteries
  • Holiday items if you can afford them now

None of these will go bad before you can use them. Think about the things you use that have to be shipped in and decide what you need.

Anyone that has more ideas to add feel welcome to do so.

Again this is not to freak anyone out or cause you to max out your credit card panic buying. It is just a reminder to keep an eye on the shelves and be prepared.
