Flower_Dragon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Um...always feels weird to talk about myself. So, let's talk about what makes me happy. Creating. Typically, I make stuffies/plushies, but there's So Much More I want to do.  I am a little/middle, my range is 5 to about 10-12.  I am months away from my 40th birthday.  And I'm just trying to make the second half of my life happier than the first half. I recently bought a kalimba and ocarina. The kalimba because it's simpler to play and the ocarina because it sounds pretty. Though, what I actually want is a glockenspiel. They always sound happy. Speaking of happy, my favorite color is yellow. Oh, also, please call me Flower. I am both nervous and excited to see what comes of this.  1
Little Nyx Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 @Flower_Dragon Hello Flower. {waves} Nice to meet you. Happy early birthday! Those look like fun instruments to play. I haven't touched an instrument in over half my life, but I played the flute for 7 years when I was young. As I got older I always wanted to learn to play the oboe, but my health had other plans that prevents me from doing so. Keep having fun with your instruments. Music feeds the soul!

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully, you've found ways to still enjoy the flute. I've never really had to read sheet music or anything so the ocarina is gonna be a bunch of skills growing at once. 1
Little Nyx Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 I haven't played in over 25 years. Not something I really care to do again, anyways. I wasn't really happy playing the flute, but it was that or the trumpet, and I couldn't deal with my lips being numb. {giggle} Sheet music can be challenging when first starting, just have to practice. Scale drills are not fun, but they are helpful.Â
Flower_Dragon Posted May 5 Author Report Posted May 5 Ah, yea, fair enough. I remember, in like, 5th or 6th grade I was in band and for reasons no longer known to me, I chose French Horn. It was literally the three shortest kids in the grade, picking one of the heaviest instruments. I don't think any of us were even 5 feet tall at that point.
Liamo Posted May 7 Report Posted May 7 Welcome here. I think you are the 1st person I know who says yellow is their favorite color. usually it is blue, green, or purple. Yellow was the color reserved for the Chinese emperor if I remember correctly. Maybe you are royalty. 😜 I never heard of the instruments you talked about. I will have to check them out. Have fun on this forum, and welcome.

No way, really? I mean, my favorite color combo is yellow and purple. Maybe I am royalty.  😉 The ocarina is kind of like a weird shaped flute and the kalimba is also called a thumb piano if I remember right. It's basically wood with metal tines attached that you play with your thumbs. Â
