Sandman cosplay helm by Daddy Bear

A little while ago I made the helm for my Sandman cosplay from scratch using a template from YouTube. It's not as good as the one from the video but since it was my first real foray into making cosplay I give myself some leeway. I hope you all like it. Im linking to my imgur because each picture is too big to add here. I built my first ever prop for my Sandman costume! https://imgur.com/gallery/T0qKAgn

Thank you!  I have got to find a way to upload pictures here that are bigger or how to reduce the size of the ones I have.

It was.  It took several months but most of the work was done in the last couple of weeks. It was a lot of fun to make though and I got to learn how to use a bunch of tools for the first time and new techniques. I never really thought of myself as an artist before that.

This is probably one of the 48524478544 props my wife wants to make. I believe she also wants to 3d print the Key to Hell. I wouldn't mind having the pouch of sand and the ruby too. We collect oddities and curious bits and bobs. Good job! Very recognizable for what it is, but without being too tacky with the overall end production of it.

Thank you! I wanted to have a better full outfit but I put so much time into the helm I didn't have time for anything else. I wish I had a 3d printer one of my favorite cosplayers kamui cosplay uses that for some of her outfits and it really makes it shine.

Honestly? Because of the original character concept, as long as you give off 90's trad goth guy vibes, you're pretty much good to go. lmfao

Ugh, the 3d printer can produce some neat stuff, but it's maintenance heavy. Sometimes she has to reprint things. Sometimes the ink clogs or hardens. Sometimes the room the printer is in had to be next to the sun for the ink to function properly. Sometimes the prints take over 24 hours. And if the lights should go out? LOL have fun~

Mind you, she bought a smaller cheaper toy poodle version, so it could be part of the various issues she has with it. The props she has managed to make or fix from it, once painted, are super cool. She recently finished painting a skull tiara (not for me, but a fake realistic prop skull in our hutch). She made clear semi transparent ink look like bone and tarnished silver.

Idk who kamui is, but I know if you put effort into the prop and maybe get some help from a 3d printer, I'm sure your end product will be cool.

edit;

Forgot to mention that the device also needs regular cleaning, stuff gets stuck to the build plate, the little parts can shift or break during a build, custom edits in the software don't always work, and ink isn't even cheap for normal printers.

Not trying to change your mind on getting one, just giving you a potentially realistic heads up of what to expect.

I only watched a few minutes, but she does seem nice. I Also shared the link with my Wife. She's at work atm though, so I'll have to tell you what she thinks sometime later.

So the verdict is in! lol And she said that it seems like that girl uses a lot of foam. My Wife wants to get into using foam, but hasn't started yet. She's got a lot of other projects she's working on atm, so not enough time to pick up new techniques.

Forgot to mention that she likes your helm!

edit again;

So she *does* have a Key to Hell, but I forgot about it because it's hidden. It's based on the hardback graphic novel, not the Netflix series. Yes, it's to scale and large, instead of normal key sized.

So many finished projects for me to forget, lol.

Oh yeah the helm is made entirely from foam except for the eyes. Tell her I said thank you. Can you link the photos of your props, id love to see them. I love the graphics novels and all of Neil's books. I'm working on trying to separate the failings of the man from the amazing work he's done as a writer

Do you have any tips for turning photos into a small enough size to be uploaded here?

I'll definitely ask her about sharing photos of her projects! Including the key.

Yeah, I'm kind of torn on the Gaimen situation, but not completely.

What I do know is that, I don't know enough of the full story to instantly accuse something I'm not physically apart of. I wasn't there, nor am I part of any lawsuit or court case.

I also haven't been keeping up with an intense obsession, as more information comes out.

That said, from what I've heard and currently understand;

The women who accused him waited until after became more well-known and was making good money from Netflix. And even if I'm mistaken about that, Gaimen has always held pro-sex beliefs and practices. So I can't help but feel like they either just want money, or are upset with jealously for him cheating.

Please bare in mind that I'm not saying victims shouldn't be taken seriously, because they absolutely should be. What I'm saying is that I'm a firm believer in due process, for both sides until all information is available to the general public, from reliable sources (Vulture is a tabloid and podcasts are not reliable) and courts have had the chance to comb through evidence.

As a society, we're very quick to cast judgment, particularly where sex is involved. And even more so if there's a celebrity involved.

As far as Gaimen's work is concerned;

From my understanding, he's stepped down from working on Good Omens. And I'm positive from everything else as well, but I'm not entirely sure due to a lack of following other projects. If he has stepped down, I have no problem in supporting Good Omens cast and crew as they finish up their long awaited 3rd season.

Now, let's compare him to J.K. Rowling for a moment. J. K. Rowling hasn't just been merely accused of something. She's constantly running her bigoted mouth on social media about societal issues that literally don't involve or harm her. She has repeatedly used her position of wealth and power to stir up hate. She hasn't had a change of heart, nor has she apologized.

But more importantly, she's still in full ownership of Harry Potter. She's currently getting a reboot series that is supposedly going to follow the books more accurately. She's making money, while marginalizing a portion of her original fan base. A lot of her original fans are queer. Harry literally came of a closet, not just figuratively. Once out, he found acceptance, support, and love.

This is the reason Trans folks in particular, are so done with her, but still love Harry. Myself included.

The three original kids have done everything to step away from J.K.R, to stand by a group of their fans being targeted by the woman who handed them a career.

Point being, people's actions speak volumes to me. And while I'm not exactly happy with Gaimen, we're all only human. He seems to be doing a much better job than some others, as far as being morally decent is concerned.

However, even with everything I've just said, I'm still actively albeit loosely keeping track of new major developments, so I can appropriately adjust my level of disgust for him and react appropriately.

But for the time being, I personally, have no issues following along with Good Omens or potentially Sandman, if he's stepped down from that as well. However, I can definitely understand that anybody else might still find the issues to distracting for them.

Also, regarding sharing images;

I don't think this site is media friendly, despite claiming it is. Resizing images doesn't always work, so I think the best/easiest option is link sharing to a personal album like you've done.

Of course, a gentle reminder to hide any identifiable info when sharing project photos publicly. HIPAA is important, but so is your personal safety.
