Sooooo I wanted to hear more from yall so expect more of this sort of thing as Our club is GROWING.

SOOOO I personally cannot resist a good side character. Whereas our protagonist often HAS to be certain things in the name of story, a good secondary character can be anything. I just love getting attached (curse the authors who then kill them off spectacularly) sooooo tell me abput some of your favorites!!! I will post my answer when we have 3 actual responses so get to posting!!!

I love this question so much! I feel like I’m someone who really focuses on character development in books. I can think of quite a few. Harry Potter has a lot of great side characters that can be argued best; Luna, Hermione, even Ron. Eowyn from LotR, though Sam goes through some heavy character development. I think he lets everyone down a time too many. Mrs. What’s it, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which from ‘A Wrinkle in Time’, really made the book for me when I read it in high school. I’m a huge fan of strong female characters who face hardship, but come out on top proving their strength. My favorite side character among all these honorable mentions has to be Galinda. I am a huge wicked fan, who could probably talk too much about her character development. I’ll just say that there’s something so special about a story where a girl who could be considered a mean girl, really opens her eyes to the way she was wrong. Then learns to see the real beauty in Elphaba.

I love side characters with personality! The ones that shine through as much as the main characters. Some of my favorites are Niran and Fa (Villiany series by A.J. Sherwood) and Wicky (Mage's Guide Series by A.J. Sherwood). They are just so snarky and fun!

Ok I totally love how we all have our own take on this. For instance I myself was thinking of much more minor but characters like maybe Rita Skeeter from HP but love how some took it as more prom8nant side characters.

Sometiems I feel author's can be more true to side characters. A side character can hurt, die, run away, dossapear, all the things and the story still goes on. I feel they give us alot of our emotional moments.

@Little Nyx Yessss!!! Sparky side characters are amazing. Especially when I feel they use their snark to spur our hero forward.

@SquirtleSquad Spinds like you get very attached to characters ters like me friend!!! You touched on the hardships they go through, s9metimes I get so emotional over a book.

@PigtailPrincess Yes! I get so attached to characters I feel loss of them sometimes too. I know it’s silly, but when you read hundreds of pages it’s an investment like anything else.

So, Twilight is complete trash, but god I do love the side characters.  Jasper/Alice have way better chemistry and a really interesting backstory.  The whole Sam/Leah/Emily love triangle would've been far more interesting.  Leah, herself, was a pretty solid female character.  And Seth is adorable.

It's kind of the same with Hunger Games too.  Most of the characters are more interesting than coddled Katniss.  And Peeta could have been better but got totally shafted.
