DaddysMonkey Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Hey everyone 👋🏼 Its been a little while since I posted an actual topic again , at least that’s what it feels like ! Most of you probably know by now that I have my Pop Mart collecting hobby , but I’ve also really taken a liking to thrifting ! I’ve always really liked thrifting - I buy almost everything on sale as it is anyways. I get a lot of my clothing including my work clothes , on clearance ! 🥰 I’m actually very proud of how much money I save when I get new things , and I prefer to buy sales , clearance or used items. Especially used items I find !!! It helps the environment and I ADORE nostalgia ! This hobby as an adult who is a middle and acts more like a teenager these days - and with my corporate / formal job I’ve kind of shifted my aesthetic. I still wear a lot of my tomboy clothing but I really have taken a liking to more girly , “high end” , “fashionable” stuff too , and nostalgic Y2K fashion as well. I thought it would be neat to see others thrifters , what you guys find and what places you go ! Do you go for clothing , purses , crafts you can work with or revamp to make something new and refreshed or all of the above ? If you do go for clothing and accessories , what styles and aesthetics do you lean towards ? If you go for crafting items , what do you try to find ? Vases , furniture , vintage pictures or household items ? These are my two latest finds , a Guess purse that’s my daily carry for work ! It fits TONS of my purse pals so I really like this one for my daily purse. I believe I got it for $12 if I remember right ? And this one typically goes for $80 ish for full price and resellers ! The one I found today blew me away !!! I really like going to Goodwill and Value Village in fancy , rich areas. A lot of really wealthy people will donate super high end stuff and it’s almost brand new. Yes , you have to dig around sometimes and it can be really stressful in shopping areas but when I find things like I did today , I feel like it’s really worth it ! We went to Bellevue Square today and it’s a really bougie , foofoo shopping area. They have a Goodwill near there and the Seattle area , and I had to stop to see if they had any treasures. After digging around the dresses and not finding anything , and digging through three sections of clothes and more purses … I finally found a treasure !!! If you’re a 90s babies like me , you’ll remember Gwen Stefani. She broke off and had her own solo career in the early 2000’s and she had her “L.A.M.B.” era. Love , Angel , Music , Baby. It was her kawaii / street / Harajuku aesthetic time that I absolutely obsessed over her during. Her song “BANANAS” especially 🤭She had come out with a special clothing line during the whole Y2K boom and she had purses and hand bags. L.A.M.B bags ! I FUCKING FOUND ONE ON PERFECT CONDITION !!!!! Well … 99.99% perfect condition. The metals have a little bit of wear but the materials and everything is clean and new ! AHHH ! THIS era for reference hehehe I got this baby for $9.99 , it originally sold for about $1,000 and resellers sell for no more than $150 from what I have researched. I feel so so so lucky for finding this today 👼🪽 This will be my more weekend , grocery run , and bag when I don’t feel like carrying the big daily work bag lol 😅 I don’t want to use it too much because I want to keep it nice. I’ll probably be able to hang one or two Labubus on this without it being too much ! I hope I can gather all my other thrifters of the site. I know I can’t be the only one who finds crazy things like this !!! 2 2
Aikko Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Yayyy! We go to the dump because they have a salvage shed section there. It’s usually just junk that people don’t want anymore, but every once in awhile we find a gem. We got a perfect working Honda push mower. Used but zero issues. Sells for 800$ new! We also got 3 brand new xl lawn chairs with attached sun shades and 3 navy camping cots there. I found 2 outdoor metal and canvas rocking chairs there. I also found a ruby and diamond necklace with about 10 different gemstones you could change out. We also found a brand new easy up tent. A night stand. 5 HUGE clay slip molds for mass producing clay figurines….a hummingbird feeder and all the supplies….yeah. I enjoy thrifting and bargain hunting! 😁 1 1

Not as an adult anyways , when I was a kid I found one of my favorite desks at a Goodwill and I sticker bombed the ever living shit out of it 😇 I remember you talking about the cots and lawn chairs !!! It’s so crazy to me that people will THROW AWAY perfectly good items instead of donating them !
Aikko Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Yep. I’m thankful they do tho cuz if it’s free, it’s for meeee! Lol 1
.คℓ𝐞メเᏰααα .ᐟ Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 (edited) Somehow I didn't realize that Gwen was into Harajuku Fashion, but it absolutely makes sense with her fashionable styles she's always had. And Harajuku exploded in the US with Weebs around that time. Just one more reason to love the platinum blonde rock queen, imho. But on topic; When I go thrifting, I always raid the kid's sections. Both clothing and toys. Sometimes adult sized clothing gets lumped in if it's got Disney/adjacent graphics. And I've found toys that were practically not played with, which indicates a collector who downsized. However, even though I do enjoy thrifting, my current obsession is a store called Five Below which is basically a Japanese product-friendly Family Dollar. Not only can I easily find my kawaii style (pink/Sanrio/toddler) cheaply here, but I get to have something shiny new. The best part is that the store doesn't just cater to my style of kawaii, but branches off into things for teens and adults. I saw the walking embodiment of an actual father at checkout with something like a metal car part or tool of some sort. Definitely not pink, definitely not femme. I spent $60 last trip there and walked out with as many toys as if I'd been thrifting higher priced used toys at Goodwill. I will be going back, lol Edited July 6 by .คℓ𝐞メเᏰααα .ᐟ 1
Andriel_Isilien Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Facebook marketplace is where I go looking for items people give away or resell for half the price. I scored a Totoro messenger bag in excellent condition! 🩶 That zapper for body hair I'm using was still unopened in the box when I got it! 1
DaddysMonkey Posted yesterday at 02:31 AM Author Report Posted yesterday at 02:31 AM (edited) Guess who scored at Goodwill again ! I wasn’t finding anything good , everything in the purse section was super dirty and damaged (to the point it would be hard to salvage) and there was a lot of brands I wasn’t interested in. When I was about to give up and walk out - there was a tiny little section that was behind the cashiers. You could tell it was either items on hold - or high end items they didn’t want people to steal. I was brave and asked the lady working the cashier area if I was allowed to look through the secret section … she said yes !!! There was Marc Jacob’s , Guess , Anne Klein and a few other high end brands. I found the COOLEST blue Guess brand purse and it still has the original tag with all of the plastic still on it !!!! The tag said 19.99$. I try to stay around 10-15$ for my treasure hunts but this one was BRAND NEW - never used. I figured what the hell , I’m gunna do it. The cashier that let me look at the secret items said she had her eye on this blue purse since it came in ! When she rung me up she gasped and said “ITS HALF OFF TODAY! ALL BLUE TAGS ARE HALF OFF TODAY !!! You got such a good deal girlfriend !” 🥰✨ I felt like I made a friend and the treasure hunt gods were shining down on me. It matches the blue in my lemon dress perfectly !!!! It was 65$ originally and I paid 10$ …. Freaking steal ! Edited yesterday at 02:47 AM by DaddysMonkey 1 1 1
MissNMTX Posted yesterday at 02:39 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:39 PM Ok, so I love the IDEA of thrifting. I 100% agree on y whole, reduce, reuse, recycle thing. And who isn't proud when the get a deal. The Goodwill nowhere I live isn't great but there are a couple of consignment shops in the nicer areas that are quite nice and one good thrift shop too. I'm really short so finding things already hemmed is always a win. The problem? I don't seem to have the knack for it. I'm sure I'm just not patient enough. You all find amazing things and I find disappointment. I tend to have better luck at Ross, Marshalls, places like that. And I do always donate when I do a closet clean out. I don't have a craft or DIY bone in my entire body. My sister does though. She can redo furniture and such and she loves doing it! I'm in awe. 1 1

Do you have a Value Village near you ? That’s another really good thrifting store we have in our area ! I haven’t ever really been to Marshall’s … maybe I should check them out if you’re saying they have good deals ! I also always donate my clothes :3 We have our donation store in town - so I always donate here instead of other areas because our town has several low income families. I actually got really excited the other day cause one of my clients grandsons who is like 10 years old was wearing one of the shirts I donated ! I saw him and said hey that’s my shirt ! And he grabbed it and laughed as he wore it and said “NO ITS MINE NOW!” It’s an old vintage book store shirt that has a dinosaur being hit with a meteorite on it that says “Dinosaurs didn’t read and look what happened to them! I am always super proud to find good deals. My nana was always very frugal , and she always told me two things : “Rich people stay rich by being frugal in some areas - they may buy nice things but most rich people dress “quietly” and save their money.” “Why are you going pay full price when the sale is what it’s worth ? Always shops sales , clearance and thrift.” You are correct that patience is a big part of it , there are plenty of times I walk out with nothing. A big part of me finding things is patience and I inspect everything I might buy. If it’s too stained , damaged or dirty to be fixed , I leave it. If it’s something I think is cool but I’m not 100% in love with it , I leave it behind. I will walk around a store 2-3 times and re look over everything cause people will put things back while you’re walking around so you might find something in your second or third walk through. The men hate that I walk through more than once , but that’s how I found this blue purse !!! Edited yesterday at 03:10 PM by DaddysMonkey 1
MissNMTX Posted yesterday at 04:34 PM Report Posted yesterday at 04:34 PM No value village here. I've been in the PNW though...so fun! Girl, your Nana was so right! The big store sized one here is called Savers. It's always really clean and part of the proceeds go to charity. Every time I go... usually looking for jeans...the brain of my short curvy girl existence. There are always. Lexus, Audi, and the like out front! Love the T-shirt story....how fun! 1

Whenever I go to places like Goodwill I always see the nicest cars and ladies walking about with the nicest shoes and purses lol so I think we’re all onto something here ! I’ve heard of Savers and I’ve seen thrifting videos on YouTube about them ! I really want to visit one eventually ! Oof .. I feel your pain with jeans. I gave up on wearing jeans a long time ago 😅 You know how it is …. Won’t go past the thighs or booty but when they do… my waist is swimming in them or they’re way too long and I have a mermaid tail made of extra jean materials hehehe. 1
