Why I do the things I do , career edition.

Hey guys 👋🏼

As most of you know by now - I work at a financial institution. I work VERY closely with people about their personal finances and that can be a very sensitive thing for majority of people. Especially with deaths in the family , people being low income ect. My job can be mentally exhausting and draining. 
 

No matter how hard this career can be - it’s my favorite line of work I’ve ever been in and I think I want this to be a lifelong career. I absolutely LOVE helping others , especially my tight nit community small town. I’m very blessed to work in the town that I live in. Naturally - this means a lot of clients know me from inside work and outside work (community events and me just being a goober talking to people when I’m out and about.) 

I love spreading positive energy and being there for people through hard times , and what happens more than I realize is how much I help people without even knowing it until later - if at all. 
 

A client came in during a huge rush , everyone was busy and there was a line out the door. The gentleman sat down and let everyone else go in front of him and I was curious why he would do that. After him waiting almost 20-30 minutes - the building was clear (about 5 people walked in after him and formed a new line , and he did this in front of everyone in the building now.) and he came up to my desk. 
 

I was ready to start handling cash for him and he goes “Hey , slow down a second. I want your attention.” 
 

I was shocked and I was like I’m so sorry ! It’s really busy so I’m just geared up and ready to go , so you have something going on that you’d need to sit in a private cubicle for ? He shook his head and told me no , he just wanted to make sure I was paying attention. 
 

He pulled out three pieces of paper and kept them in his hands , and while it might not be word for word because I got so emotional … he said : 

“You have no idea how much you mean to me , and to this community. Our small town bank needed someone like you to finally show up - the envelope you gave me my cash in the last time you helped me said “spread joy and stay positive”. My son died 15 years ago on that day you helped me and gave me that envelope and that was my son’s motto. That day was very emotional and difficult for me and I was so curt with you that day , and you did nothing but treat me with love. My son only ever wanted to spread joy and positivity to others and he worked with the church helping the community doing exactly that. I cried and cried and remembered my son’s life motto through you. I brought you this picture , this saying my son and I used to say to people , and a picture of my deceased son. I hope you know how special you are and you are living proof that my son is still here with me everyday and so is his message he spread everywhere. Thank you for being the little angel you are.” 
 

I cried , he cried , he told my co workers and managers how special I am , then I continued to sob like a fucking baby. 
 

Even when my home life , work life is hard , the mental stress and exhaustion is too much … I still always choose to treat people with love , gentleness and the kindness I wish I would’ve been treated with my whole life. It’s not always easy , but moments of tenderness and pure love like I had with this gentleman … it just makes me want to be that much more kind and pure and spread my love as far as my arms can reach. 

Sure , I make business deals , I make over 1mm$ deals , I touch hundreds of thousands of dollars every day in my career. None of it matters. Moments like this with my clients is what truly matters to me. 

Always remember , being kind is worth it. You may never see the results - or you may see them a day later or weeks later. It’s always worth it.

I'm not crying. You're crying. Seriously this is the best story. I have such empathy for the gentleman, as grief is such a permanent emotion. I'm so happy for you to receive such affirmation. 

We live  in such a world of darkness, and cruelty, harshness and a lack of kindness and compassion. So much self absorbed self involvement. I'm proud of you and anyone who does their small bit to shine light.

Its engrained in me to care about others and when I took this job I never expected to be doing what I love so much in this career. 
 

I feel extremely blessed to be able to give and receive moments like this with my clients , and I’m even more so grateful to have been able to give this gentleman hope that people are living his sons motto through life. 
 

Most people expect financial institutions to be greedy and money hungry and ONLY care about the money… which I’m sure is true for most. Not my bank , not me and not my coworkers. I’m proud of myself and my team that we care about humans first and everything is secondary to what’s best for our clients. 
 

I have the pictures and photo of his son hanging up in my cubicle to remind me of his motto even on my hardest days at work. 💕

As I posted in my status yesterday - I got entered into our LEAP program as a secret surprise from my manager. I was humbled beyond belief and so grateful … then today I get another email ?!?!? GET THE FUCK OUT. I got recognized as the best in our entire regional area !! That’s over 100 different branches that I fucked defeated and got picked for being the “star” ! 😭 

I swear I’m not crying !!!! I have dust in my eyeballs !!! 🥲

I made it a goal for this job to be my career and I am slowly making it happen you guys. This week at work has been blowing my mind !

I had to print them off and take pictures cause we aren’t allowed to take photos of our work computers 😅 But I am so proud I had to show all of you guys !!!

Today was the big day !!!! 
 

I got invited to the top performers event for Q1 and Q2 ! We all got to go to the Mariners game and got free vouchers to get food and merch ! We were in our own reserved section for all of our top performing employees ✨ 
 

I drove our group - we had the most people from a single branch to get invited. I was so happy I got to hang out with my work mom for a good portion of the event because we both don’t drink :3 
 

I used my voucher for a vegan hamburger and a souvenir cup with soda !!! I used my own money to get Dad and Brother a hat each (they can pick the one they want) and I got myself a blanket ! I really wanted something to remember today since it meant so much to me to be invited. I feel like I’m really growing in my career and getting invited to top performer events like that is proof of my hard work. 
 

I never expected to feel so loved but my name had already spread around like wildfire - our area leader was taking me around like a toddler and presenting me to people telling them I’m an up and coming private banker , that I look like a cartoon anime character and kept saying “ Go on cutie - don’t be shy show them your Labubu wall!” And I just stood there holding my phone and Labubu out like a little toddler 😭✨🫶🏼 I had the nicest time ever and I feel so grateful and blessed I found a career that suits me.

Hello , I am back ! 
 

Two stories - first one very quick and sweet. 
 

1. A client that regularly comes in noticed I was a little down the other day - so the following day she came up to my teller window and smacked some gifts down. No words - just tossed the gifts at me , smiled and walked away. (I was stuck on the phone.) She made my day that day :3 It was really really sweet of her and they are PERFECT.  A giant pack of Kuromi pens and a whole book of Kuromi themed sticky notes !!!! HOW CUTE AND PERFECT FOR WORK ✨😭

 

2. I get ten minute breaks at work so I usually go outside and vape and fuck around ok my phone. I go out to the little stoop by our drive up and ATM drive through and sit there but lately… on my second break of the day… there’s been someone sitting in my spot. They’ve offered the seat back to me and I deny it , I don’t mind standing. We’ve had small conversations here and there over the past month or so and I’ve learned they just moved recently from Alaska , they have no family around , and they kinda feel like an outcast in town. (My town admittedly is a little cold to outsiders and are extremely tight knit. We’re not mean , but also like.. why are you in our town ? lol ) They paint on rocks and write messages on the rocks or little pieces of paper and they hide them around town. I’ve told them how cool it is and I’ve told my coworkers about this person and how neat it is they’re spreading little bits of happiness with their rocks. The other day I went outside and found this ; 

That’s an example of what he does :3 They just leave little notes and rocks all over town. How fuckin cool is that ? 
 

Well today , I went outside on my second break. Over time I’ve learned their name so when I walked over to the stoop and saw them painting rocks I said “Hey , how’s it going Jet ?” He smiled at me and said he wanted to thank me for being a friendly face and encouraging them so much. They presented a handmade gift to me 😭✨ It was a little hand decorated baggy ! I talked with them for a while and they told me their father just passed away the other day - they got the phone call right after I walked away from him the other day to go back inside. He said that for some reason he felt like he was supposed to talk to me , I thanked them over and over again for my gift and hit my vape a few more times before my break was up. The bag was decorated like the tattoo on my right forearm 😭 rainbow leopard print ! Inside was a poem with their name and number , hand painted rocks , and a pin from where they are in Alaska ! How freakin cool. 

 

My coworker was joking around that I’m a deity 🤭people are always bringing me gifts and trinkets and hand made things hehehe.
