MissNMTX Posted Thursday at 09:21 PM Report Posted Thursday at 09:21 PM Hi All, Watching all my English/UK videos today. Super curious, on tea & scones also. I know that this can be controversial, but I think it'll be a fun chat. The way I learned: Tea- tea first, sweetener, milk Scone- cream, then jam Is this right? Wrong? Personal preference? Why is it so controversial? Just because it's personal. I'm so excited to see the chat about this! ☺️ 1
NR_Daddy Posted Thursday at 10:32 PM Report Posted Thursday at 10:32 PM So its a bit subjective. If you're using bone china, then brew the tea in a teapot, pour milk into cup first, then the tea. The reason being that bone china cups can crack with water that's too hot. Generally it is tea bag in the cup/mug first, add boiling water (not boiled and left to stand) then sugar. Allow to brew for a few minutes while stirring. Then add milk. Anyone being really fussy and telling you what's wrong and what's right are generally hypocrites anyway, because they are probably using tea bags and not loose tea. Loose tea is the best (and most expensive), and tea bags are made from the dust. As for scones, have whatever you like. People don't as a rule have loose tea in bone china cups and scones with cream and jam. That's just a stereotype. I have my scones with just butter or just jam, and prefer sultana scones. I also like a brand called yorkshire tea because it's a strong variety. 1
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 02:13 AM Author Report Posted Friday at 02:13 AM @NR_Daddy Thank you for your reply. Yes, I know it's a stereotype, but I still th❤️ink it's so much fun. I tend to drink more tea on rainy/colder days so I think I'm trying to will the weather to shift. I had heard about the bone china. I do have some, but I would never use it for everyday tea. I'm not that posh not even in my dreams....😂 I feel very advanced having a strainer for loose leaf tea now!
NR_Daddy Posted Friday at 06:21 AM Report Posted Friday at 06:21 AM (edited) @MissNMTX Yes you are very advanced having bone china cups and a tea strainer 🤣 I drink tea every day (probably about 4 or 5 a day), and get up early enough to sit down with a mug at my PC and watch the weather forecast (as I'm doing now) before I do anything. I'm definitely not posh, even in my dreams 🤣 One thing I don't like is buying tea when out from places like costa/starbucks. It's awful. They put water in with a tea bag, don't brew it and put milk in straight away, and charge silly amounts for something that tastes awful. Lots of people are terrible at making tea here. I take a flask of hot water out with me and make my own in my travel mug. Edited Friday at 06:23 AM by NR_Daddy
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 04:04 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 04:04 PM @NR_Daddy Silly prices....I happily pay them, but shall refer to them as such from now on. British people horrible at tea? *Gasps* I must admit I cheat and had bags and use my huge American sized mugs. There is a cute little tea shop not far from me. I shall endeavor to be a good tea maker. 1

Well .... a cup of tea costs about 5p to make, yet they charge £2 ... ish ... it's a rip off for what is essentially dishwater 1 hour ago, MissNMTX said: British people horrible at tea? *Gasps* I must admit I cheat and had bags and use my huge American sized mugs. You'd better believe it. I think they are coffee drinkers and wouldn't know what a well made cup of tea is. We all use teabags here, and most use mugs too .... especially us common folk 🤣 1 hour ago, MissNMTX said: There is a cute little tea shop not far from me. I shall endeavor to be a good tea maker. Sounds nice. If you're interested in different and other good varieties, and some nice accessories, take a look at Rington's tea. I like their traditional blend, but don't get it very often. It's something that 3 generations of my family have drunk. They have importers in the USA that distribute. You can find it here .... https://www.britsuperstore.com/usa/browse-by-section/english-tea-shop/ringtons-tea.html and possibly in other places too. ***EDIT*** It is a bit expensive the prices you are charged. I did a little conversion and the traditional 50 tea bags cost us equivalent of $2.85, and they want $15 for the same. Edited Friday at 05:20 PM by NR_Daddy
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 05:38 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 05:38 PM @NR_Daddy I have noticed when I watch all my UK videos (watching another fancy London hotel now) that your grocery prices seem much more affordable. The rub seems to be your utilities being higher in exchange.
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 05:48 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 05:48 PM @NR_DaddyNo Ringtons on Amazon!

Bleached chicken is outlawed here too but served a lot in the USA. Yes property prices/rentals are ridiculous and utilities and petrol (what you call gas) are stupidly high too. 17 minutes ago, MissNMTX said: @NR_DaddyNo Ringtons on Amazon! No ... you would never find anything of quality on amazon.. Maybe I could send you a packet .... save you having to re-mortgage to buy some 🤣 Edited Friday at 06:06 PM by NR_Daddy
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 07:04 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 07:04 PM @NR_Daddy yes, I've seen the price of petrol is quite insane in all of Europe. Here we complain when it tops $3. I would love an English care package! Weird American Anglophile.😂 1
NR_Daddy Posted Friday at 07:22 PM Report Posted Friday at 07:22 PM (edited) Nothing wierd about being an anglophile. Hmm ... makes me think about what I might put in an English care package..... 🤔 I think it would have to include cake and biscuits though. Not sure scones would last unless they are pre-packed. Edited Friday at 07:24 PM by NR_Daddy
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 08:58 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 08:58 PM @NR_Daddy being a Anglophile, I have an answer to this conundrum. Definitely biscuits and chocolate....less waxy than American chocolate.

Definitely biscuits and chocolate....less waxy than American chocolate. that's an interesting concept about chocolate being waxy .... sounds horrendous. I heard your biscuits really aren't up to much too. Have you ever had battenburg cake? It's like a sponge, coloured and wrapped in soft marzipan.
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 09:49 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 09:49 PM (edited) @NR_Daddy No, but I've seen them of Great British Bake off...😂 I only know about the chocolate difference because of malt teasers and Cadbury buttons. Edited Friday at 09:50 PM by MissNMTX 1

Cadburys butttons are my go to ... along with kitkat and milkyway and twix ... depends what's on offer haha. Occasionally I will buy After Eight, which is dark chocolate over a flat thin mint gooey interior. That's the only dark choc I will eat. I don't think I've ever seen the great british bake off, but then again I'm not a tv person. Battenburg is nice cake. I also like Manor House cake which is a fruit sponge. Not overly keen on too much icing. I tend to not buy cak often because I will just eat it and feel gluttonous.
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 10:05 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 10:05 PM @NR_Daddy Cake,🎂 is your vice. Got it. What's your thoughts on Galaxy bars?I always think I might like those. Also, is whiskey tea a real thing? I have some on my list.
NR_Daddy Posted Friday at 10:15 PM Report Posted Friday at 10:15 PM Galaxy is quite nice. it's very smooth chocolate. They also make galaxy buttons too, liek the cadbury's ones, although not as many varieties of buttons as cadbury's Yes, Whiskey tea is a thing that some have, although I can't drink whiskey. It doesn't agree with me.
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 10:50 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 10:50 PM @NR_Daddy oh poor thing! No whiskey makes me sad. Not that I have so many, But I can vs. tequila, which I can not!

Must be my heritage because I like vodka and cider, but not together. Anyway. I'm dragging this discussion away from tea and scones, your original topic, and it's almost like our own little conversation haha 1
MissNMTX Posted Friday at 11:05 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 11:05 PM @NR_Daddy yes, I noticed. Anytime someone else wants to jump in they can.. I know there are loads of Brits here

Here, it's $2.75 if I do the exchange rate. Someone really is trying to rip people off. I can't believe anyone would pay $40 for a pack of biscuits. Strangely, I just thought of what you said yesterday about being posh in your dreams, and just pictured you a bit like this ... https://www.dreamstime.com/girl-alice-little-drinking-tea-image126117759 🤣 Edited yesterday at 08:48 AM by NR_Daddy
MissNMTX Posted yesterday at 11:24 AM Author Report Posted yesterday at 11:24 AM Haha....I do have a list of places to have afternoon tea! It's silly day dreaming, but it's fun. If I ever do make it anywhere near the UK, I'm prepared.

If it makes you happy then by all means do it. 1
MissNMTX Posted 8 hours ago Author Report Posted 8 hours ago (edited) @NR_DaddyNah.... Then I'd have to make it all myself. I'll stick to my F &M, Harrods, and Ritz day dreams. I've even see where you can have afternoon tea at my family's ancestral seat in Scotland. It rained yesterday, so I did make a cup of lemon ginger. I love my coffee, but something about tea just hits differently. Edited 5 hours ago by MissNMTX
