NickyMoon Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 Spoiler Question 17: So we learn that the boyfriend of the girl who disappeared splashed acid on Doctor Death and after the incident he only got expelled. Do you find this strange? Any ideas why legal action wasn't taken? Is the story behind the scarring not accurate possibly? I think this is a classic example of rumors warping in retelling. Maybe some of the details are correct but I'm sure the general public has no idea how things actually happened. Question 18: Here we learn that, before it kills, the parasite has some positive affects. From everything we know so far any guesses on how this parasite could be used by society? For good or for bad. I think if they could figure out a way to remove the parasite safely, it could be used to cure addictions, cancer, etc. But I'm sure like most things, it could be warped to be used for things like torture. Question 19: So when it comes to Barletta, Dr Deaths prisoner, does anything So far surprise you about him? Either before or after the parasite. I think the only thing that surprised me about him is how unpanicked he seems to be locked in a cell and experimented on. Question 20: This one is for fun. Find a picture (real, AI, artwork any will do) of our black moth friend. If you are an artist feel free to craft your own. https://share.google/mOIpWtXgFOPyojZoY Question 21: What do you think is the point in discussing somewhat top secret parasite information with students at the university? Why the NDA? What is your guess on what's so important that they must keep it so secret? I think that they are telling the students so that they can have more people to help with research and (possibly) testing. They have to sign the NDA because the secret society doesn't want the world to know about the parasite for some reason. I am guessing that they want to keep it secret so that they can control it. 1
MissNMTX Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 Spoiler Question 17: I think this is a very insular and powerful place. We all know that power and influence changes this. I think this is simply that in fictional form. Didn't surprise me one bit. Question 18: It seems from the discussion. That the parasite in the early stages could be useful for detox purposes. Of course for it to be effective, you'd have to be able to remove it at that beneficial stage before it flips and advances Question 19: This feels like a case study in addiction. A sad case study. Once he's sober and clear headed and starting to feel healthier, he's then so resigned and in shame, he seems to not concerned about being imprisoned and on the path to dying....so sad, really. Question 20: Oh noes! I'm not that creative, I do have a idea in my head though. Question 21: My guess is the students are potentially used as research subjects, hence the NDA. It also seems some of the students are the children of the power brokers seeming to keep certain families in the loop of all the universities secrets. Potentially, the next generation of the Rooks 2
DaddysCosmicBunny Posted December 19, 2025 Report Posted December 19, 2025 (edited) Question 17: Spoiler I suspect no legal action was taken by the acid attack cuz the school very likely didn’t want bad press for school. The incident with the woman who attacked the professor in his home would be allowed to make the press because it looks like some crazed rando with no known connections to the school (at least publicaly). The acid attack, on the other hand, would def draw attention cuz it involved a student/teacher relationship which most (if not all) schools frown upon. I feel the incident was too scandalous and would def make the school look bad. I personally found it as very juicy gossip, though. 🤭 Question 18: Spoiler I would think that if the parasite’s effects can be harvested then they could/should be used to help cure illnesses. If in the right hands, it could be used to help “rejuvenate” people. In the wrong hands, it could be used as a bio-weapon with the negative effects. I’d hope the uses would be for good rather than evil, though. Question 19: Spoiler I was a bit surprised at how he could drink the bottle of liquor given to him from his captor. I understand he’s an alcoholic, but if I’m being kept in a cage, I would not trust anything my captor gives me. He was clearly at rock bottom which is why Devryk took him. I did feel bad for him when he started to experience the positive effects of the parasites. It was like seeing who he could have been if he chose to get sober and turn his life around. Question 20: Spoiler Spoiler Ai created, but they’re really pretty.💖 I did use a simple prompt of “black moth” and “pitch-black moth”. The fully back one is my fave, but the light shining through the first ones wings to give it a blue hue is really pretty. Question 21: Spoiler I found the need for an NDA was strange. I suspect it’s to gain intellect from the students about the parasites. If one of the students has/provides a breakthrough from the parasite, the school would want to keep it to themselves. We’ve already witnessed them kill a man for trying to sell some of their research, so who knows what’s in the NDA? Probably nothing pretty 😬 Edited December 21, 2025 by DaddysCosmicBunny 2
PigtailPrincess Posted January 3 Author Report Posted January 3 On 12/11/2025 at 8:59 PM, DaddysCosmicBunny said: Question 9: Hide contents From what I got, this secret society are no nonsense kind of elites. That old, old money kind of vibe. They probably have “eyes and ears” everywhere. He very likely wasn’t as sneaky as he thought he was. I can only assume the research stolen was extremely valuable for death to even be an option. I don’t know if I can say it’s justified, but to them, it definitely is. Question 10: Hide contents I was a little surprised. It felt like a power move to keep everyone in line. A part of me wants to believe they are using their resources for good (finding cures for fatal illnesses), which is why the offense of stealing the research was his life. The man would be profiting from work that could save countless lives. Death shouldn’t be a punishment for stealing, but I feel the execution is a clear message of “don’t mess with us” to the man and anyone who might scheme with/like him. I suspect the method of death chosen was to make it look like a “natural death.” Question 11: Reveal hidden contents Connor is definitely aware of Angelo’s behavior. Probably not to the extent that Lilia has experienced, but he knows the shit personality is there. I feel he turns the other cheek, because He’s dependent on Angelo for income. Connor mentioned something about money earlier and it reminded me kind of like an abused spouse. He’s stuck in this relationship where he can’t get out so he pretends everything is okay and turns a blind eye to the bad. From what we’ve read so far, Connor seems like an okay guy but a slight pushover when it comes to Angelo. Question 12: Reveal hidden contents It was a little strange to me that he seeks sex out so regularly considering his dislike. I suspect his touch phobia will come up as some repressed abuse. I have no clue what it could be, but I’m sure it’ll create issues for him and Lilia as the story goes on. Thank you for the answers friend! So to respond on question 9 Spoiler I agree!!! Like to us it seems soooo over the too but I think the way old money keeps is through confidentiality and a threat to that is a threat to everything they have.

Maybe it’s stripping the nutrients causing the markings and leaving behind the “un-needed” which creates the stench? Either way, these parts are my least favorite. Question 14: Hide contents I’m honestly hoping it doesn’t evolve past this stage. After teeth, it’s usually eyes then hands and feet. All options are absolutely terrifying. I couldn’t believe it got away, too. 😰 Question 15: Hide contents Devryk mentioned something about Lippincott having married into the secret society thingy. He isn’t a “pure-blood.” Langmore could be a member born into the society and thus has more status/power than Lippincott despite being a former drunkard. Question 16: Reveal hidden contents Devryk brings up a lot about his dad’s “mess” that he has to take responsibility for. Whatever the studies are trying to do/find must be important to restore his families reputation. Perhaps he can fix whatever his dad did by finding a “cure” or “fix” before anyone else can? Thank you for the answers friend. Ok response to number 13 Spoiler I think you are right on the money and it also creeps me out!! There are many examples in nature of organisms feeding on what they need be it plants or animals and leaving the rest so I think that is a perfect guess for what we see in the bodies. Makes me wonder how horrible it must be for the hosts...
PigtailPrincess Posted January 3 Author Report Posted January 3 On 12/16/2025 at 4:00 PM, MissNMTX said: Hide contents Hide contents Question 13. Ok, they're parasites so they literally feed off of organic material. We know the study and experiments have been going on at least for a number of decades now. My guess is the parasites are burrowing deeper than before, feeding off of more material, and at a faster rate. Question 14: Forced evolution can speed up the process. I'm thinking like hybrid dog breeds and the like. It seems as though the parasite worms are beginning to develop attributes of what it feeds off of. First, teeth then maybe sharp nails, like finger and toe nails. Definitely only the harmful destructive attributes. Question 15: At this point in the story it seems it is simply a story of success, jealousy and desire. Lippicot knows about her relationship with Bramwell, he has too in such a small insulated world. It seems....now... like lust. I'm sure being the only female character besides our FMC doesn't help. Even in the real world, portions if not all of academia is male dominated. Question 16: Bramwell's personal and family history is wrapped up in this. He has much more at stake than Lippicot's desire for prestige. I think the effects of the experiments are much darker and much more manipulative as we go further along. Spoiler Spoiler Thank you for the answers friend! Ok also response to 13 (yall have spme amazing answers for this one) Spoiler Ohhhhhh interesting and very realistic guess on it taking on attributes of the host!!! I wonder if the parasite may begin tp also gain more intelligence along the way with its mutations. This is getting scary lol.

Just infect to get them off and feeling nice, do a bunch of therapy in the meantime and then remove the parasite before it dpes too much damage. With this guess we can also see why this research may be worth a TON of money.

MissNMTX Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 Spoiler Woohoo I found the questions.! These were my favorite chapters thus far so I'm excited to answer the questions. Question 30: I think his feelings surrounding his brother's death are two fold. There is the 'typical' ' sibling bond and the 'typical' grief that would come from losing sibling. That combined with them having survived an abusive childhood together only serves to deepen and strengthen their bond. Which would I turn intensify his grief. Factor in that grief is permanent and it all makes sense to me. Spoiler Question 31: I know they say it's common for those abused to grow up to be abusers, but I really don't believe that's the case with him. I don't think he would ever harm children. I do believe he would continue his research though by continuing the was he does. I think he sees it as some sort of karma or vigilant justice. Also, I'm dying to know more of Lila's mom's backstory. There is more connections there I just know it. Spoiler Question 32:: I have such mixed thoughts on this. Obviously, throughout history women have done what 's necessary to survive. I appreciate a friend. Supporting what you need without judgement and encouraging you to make the most of things. I just can't imagine anything like that much less being encouraged into it.. Spoiler Question 33:: I think he doesn't because he does see it as some sort of 'justice' in relation to the the types of subjects/victims that he selects. Some sort of retribution or pay back.. perhaps for his own childhood. He doesn't improve the conditions because he is exercising more than one demon and simply doesn't want to. Spoiler Question 34: this is a complex social question. Should you be able to curate and post material as a mentally healthy, consenting adult? Yes. It doesn't have to be consumed. Much like the fourm, no one makes it here by accident you have to search it out. However, even a cursory understanding will tell you that there are often so many factors at play that don't involve health and consent and often involved abuse, coercion, and manipulation . Hence, why we struggle. 2
DaddysCosmicBunny Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 Question 22: Spoiler This may be completely unrelated to Lilia. My guess is he probably disrespected someone in the cult’s daughter/sister/cousin/girlfriend/wife because he’s that much of a creep. I’m biased, of course. Question 23: Spoiler Devryk doesn’t seem like the type to have a thing for his students. I suspect the rumor about the other student has little to nothing to do with him directly, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Gilchrist has something to do with it. I feel it’s the biggest reason she wanted Lilia removed from the class. Maybe she suspects it’s the same situation as with the other student. Question 24: Spoiler This was a struggle for me to get through. Clearly, Devryk is extremely guarded and doesn’t like people in his business. I feel Ghilchrist was overstepping due to her jealousy and he was standing his ground by putting her in her place. It’s clear she thinks they’re more than they are to try and get Lilia removed from his class, but I’m glad (even though harsh) he was able to keep his boundaries. I’d argue it would make him unapproachable in my eyes, but that’s kinda what he wants. lol Question 25: Spoiler Maybe they cause a spike of adrenaline at midnight? I won’t pretend to know anything about parasites, but it could be the body is on overdrive since it’s making the host “better”. Kind of like a mania high. Question 26: Spoiler My vote is on the unusual background and story of how Lilia ended up at the school. She automatically gets placed in his class and he notices that she isn’t this rich girl who paid her way in. She worked hard academically and it shows. Question 27: Spoiler I wouldn’t be surprised if she end up being the jilted ex-lover. I def get the impression that she thinks her relationship with Devryk is more than what it is. It may affect Lilia’s educational environment while she’s there. Question 28: Spoiler Curiosity killed the cat lol I wouldn’t say it’s justified to put herself in danger by being nosey, but I can understand the draw of finding the peculiar professor of the school throwing knives in the woods. Question 29: Spoiler I assume it’s a condition, but it’s kind of unclear what the trigger is. I want to say it’s stress, but it isn’t consistent. 2
RoseyLittle Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Spoiler Question 30: Like others, I think the trauma in childhood they both clearly lived with is a big part of making complex grief. And I’ve seen the way survivors guilt can be part of grief too. It’s hard to be the one still here. I wonder if there is something specific about his death that could be triggering or will later play into part of character development. Question 31: Ooo tough question. I feel like if we asked him that he would say no. And that he would not harm children himself in any other way. But that in reality, if his research required the bodies of children, just in the context of the research, he may cross that line. Under the label of the better good. His morality is already dark grey and he struggles with his own darkness. I think he has the potential to slip into that in that scenario. Question 32: Oof, lots of structural context here. I think people need to do what they need to do to survive. I don’t judge her friend for suggesting an option and talking it out with her. Consenting adults can choose what makes the most sense for them and their bodies, but I struggled with the idea of informed consent. Did she really know all of the reality of what that choice was? And is it truly consent when structural elements like poverty and oppression are part of what force one into those choices? Question 33: I wondered about this too? Again part of that darkness he struggles with? A lack of empathy? A way of punishing those he views as abusers or degenerates of society. I also wondered if it made it easier to do what he does. Like subconsciously dehumanizing them further. Question 34: Gah! You are not holding back on these questions this round!! *laughs* Huge complex social question. Like I said above, I believe consenting adults have the right to engage with their bodies and choices as they see fit. And as a rape crisis worker and trauma therapist I’ve worked closely with organizations that are for the voices and rights of sex workers. So I’ve also seen the way that people can be empowered within the work. That being said I’ve also seen the way that poverty, oppression, trauma and all other kinds of things can lead to spaces in which people don’t have choice. And that there are sections of the industry that are harmful. I personally feel ethical porn and sex work created and run by the workers themselves are the safest and there are ways technology and the ability to self post have created safety. I also feel making these things illegal makes it more dangerous for the workers and look at spaces where it has been legalized and given more voice in comparison. 1
DaddysCosmicBunny Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 Question 30: Spoiler I don’t have specifics, but I definitely suspect it has something to do with their father. He didn’t seem to have favorites between the two, so he likely abused Caedmon as well. Probably not as bad since Caedmon mentions Devryck getting on their father’s nerves on purpose. (Though that def sounded like victim blaming.) Question 31: Spoiler I don’t think he would. Considering his abuse as a child, I feel it would make him too much like his father and that is something he clearly does not want. Question 32: Spoiler Desperate times and measures, for sure. I think Jayda only brought it up for that reason alone AND it was something that worked for her. Personally, I wouldn’t tell a friend to do OnlyFans since I’ve never done it myself. I also wouldn’t be able to guarantee success in such a venture. What works for one may not work for another. Question 33: Spoiler I suspect two reasons. One: he doesn’t like the guy knows he’s going to die and doesn’t intend to waste more resources on him than needed. Two: It may be part of his research. The guy improved after being infected, so maybe he needs to keep the conditions crappy to ensure it’s the wormies improving his state and not the “prison” he’s in. Question 34: Spoiler There are a buncha real life sites like the one mentioned, so my thoughts are as long as everyone is consenting adults then it’s all good. Age verification would probably be a smart thing for those creating and posting the content. 2

Thank you friend for the compliment. These were for sure some deeper questions with the social aspect. So 32 and 34: Spoiler Ok ypu bring up an amazing point. Is it really fair to offer this sort of work in extreme poverty? Or do we have an obligation to not prey on the fact that people get desperate. I think this is a stark contrast also to where Lilia is now at a rich school with students and staff that mostly have only ever known momey. 1
PigtailPrincess Posted January 15 Author Report Posted January 15 On 1/12/2026 at 12:07 PM, DaddysCosmicBunny said: Question 30: Reveal hidden contents I don’t have specifics, but I definitely suspect it has something to do with their father. He didn’t seem to have favorites between the two, so he likely abused Caedmon as well. Probably not as bad since Caedmon mentions Devryck getting on their father’s nerves on purpose. (Though that def sounded like victim blaming.) Question 31: Reveal hidden contents I don’t think he would. Considering his abuse as a child, I feel it would make him too much like his father and that is something he clearly does not want. Question 32: Reveal hidden contents Desperate times and measures, for sure. I think Jayda only brought it up for that reason alone AND it was something that worked for her. Personally, I wouldn’t tell a friend to do OnlyFans since I’ve never done it myself. I also wouldn’t be able to guarantee success in such a venture. What works for one may not work for another. Question 33: Reveal hidden contents I suspect two reasons. Question 34: Hide contents There are a buncha real life sites like the one mentioned, so my thoughts are as long as everyone is consenting adults then it’s all good. Age verification would probably be a smart thing for those creating and posting the content. Thank you for the answers friend For your last answer: Spoiler Ok I also found it highly suspicious no age verification. I am starting to wonder if this site is going to play a deeper part to the story...
MissNMTX Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 Spoiler Question 35: it's very possessive and territorial, which let's face it some of us like. That's why we read the books we do. The idea of the "bad" guy who has no concerns other than protecting you. Morally gray all day long! Now of course, if we're talking real life it's an entirely different story! Spoiler Question 36: I'm not actually surprised she didn't take the money. It was such a struggle for her. We have a tendency to think of money being so important, but sometimes it's just not worth what it can do to your spirit. Spoiler Question 37:: I think we under estimate her here. Yes, she attracted to him , but I think she also knows that he's the key to so many things that she's invested in. I have a feeling many of these "small" things are quite calculated. Spoiler Question 38: I have a feeling she might already know. Or at least it's percolating in her mind. She's putting together pieces of information very quickly now. If she's not already there, she will be soon. She put herself in the middle of everything on purpose. Spoiler Question 39: I actually think she's going to end up being more protected. Her mother's backstory is key to many things, Professor Bramwell's role at the University and in her life and Spencer too. I very Lippincott more as a puppet to greater forces. Spoiler Question 40: This is all one big Kabal. It's going to be fun to see it all come out.
MissNMTX Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Spoiler Question 41: I think Mel is a loner sort. The kind of quirky that makes it hard to make friends. Also, I would be surprised if Lila's questions have tipped Mel off that Lila knows more than most. Mel gets to make a "friend" and bring someone else into the circle. Spoiler Question 42: I'm seriously considering the possibility that Amos Anon and the Rooks may have a symbiotic relationship. Spoiler Question 43:: I think she's doing it because it's her mother. Not for any sense of universal truth, but because she's now feeling like she's lost her sense of foundation and identity. I think she's now trying to find a new identity. Spoiler Question 44:: Obviously since there are now male subjects it can't be essential to the study. Seems more probable to me that Bramwell's father has some " issues" with young women. Spoiler Question 45: they had me scared for a second that Bramwell might be Lila's father..Glad I kept reading my way through that! Spoiler Question 46: I think Lila's mother did everything in her power to separate herself from her old life. Including dating a type of man that would further distance between her and her past.
RoseyLittle Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Spoiler Question 41: I was asking myself similar questions as a reader and was wondering about the potential feel of kinship, Lilia in many ways is an “outsider” or “other” like her, and also the pragmatic desire for a potential source. Question 42: I was torn with this one because on one hand, common, secret death group (now forever named) which clearly had all kinds of power, pull and information networks…but on the other hand, rebellious youth just being youth, could be seen as below the need to even engage in terms of actual concern or threat level. Question 43: I find she sometimes comes at the questions like a hammer does a nail. Her pursuit in the beginning so adamant, in these chapters I enjoyed seeing her slow down a bit and actually think tactics a little in terms of what and how to ask. Similar to her I’d be wanting to ask, the quest for truth is part of how we make meaning and experience closure, she’s searching for that. But I think I would go slower. Question 44: I found this interesting! Especially because women were so historically ignored in medical and scientific research for so long and especially in these times. But I wonder if it was because he was trying to supposedly cure his wife’s life long diabetes and so something about similar gender comes into play for the research. It also makes me wonder if good ol Dr Death only uses males for his study? And the way with both of them it could also be elements of transference speaking more to how they view young women in the case of his father (or potential for lower class young women) or in Bramwells case, perpetrators of abuse. Question 45: I thinks it’s possible although from the flashbacks it seemed his father devalued him constantly and shred little of his work in any way. It would create interesting opportunities character connection wise. But the thing I keep thinking about in the timeline is clearly her mum left when she was pregnant with her….so what would the parasite have as potential impact on a developing fetus? Is Lilia in some way going to be different that others to the parasite due to this? And like she keeps asking herself, how did her mother have no symptoms for such a big window of time? Question 46: Yes there are pieces of this that doesn’t fit for me too, but I wondered if it was a total rejection of what she came from, or just pure survival, completely starting over and with a baby too, fleeing with nothing? Elements of Connor provide stability and in a small way I could see fun? But yes overall I’m just why girl, why?
SquirtleSquad Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Part 1 : Spoiler Question 1: So here we see the Commodore having the men join on the journey to the island and saying he specifically kept the reason from them to avoid mutiny. What are your thoughts on this? Do they deserve to know or is it all part of the job? ~I always tend to lean in favor of keeping people informed and giving them choices/options. However, it really seems expected when venturing out to sea there’s going to be a certain amount of unknown no matter what. Question 2: Here we meet an abused boy coming to meet the ship crew. Do you think he was left alive on purpose? Or escaped? Something else? If on purpose any guesses why? ~At first, I thought he had escaped. Until his interactions with the crew, which leads me to believe he’s there for a reason. He seems like he’ll be an important character. Question 3: Here Lillias coworker is pregnant and therefore makes her clean the bathrooms. Lillian seems gracious about it, what about you? If you were her and not only terrified of bathrooms but also getting the shitty job how would you react? ~When I was younger I would have reacted similarly to Lillian. I would have been happy to help, and offered it willingly. Even if it was traumatic to me. I’d hope now that I’d advocate for myself and offer to help in a way that isn’t traumatic to me. Question 4: OK another guessing question. I wanna hear all your theories about these worm things. What are they? Why do the people who have them go to water? Why the smell? And anything else you wanna add for guesses. ~ Hear me out, what if the worm things are a part of a hive mind. Where in they are all connected, and to a leader/ queen like thing in the water. That would explain why the people who have them are led to the water and whatever is in the water. Question 5: So here we have Conner (Bees Dad) insisting that her mom had cut her wrists. Do you think this is truly what he saw or knows? If not why do you think he might lie? ~ To me he seems like the blissful ignorance type, or maybe he’s in denial. I don’t seem him lying for ulterior motives. However, I do feel like I still need a lot more information. Question 6: Here Lillia has an altercation with the undeniably gross Conner. Do you think we have seen most of him or do you think he ends up playing a bigger part? Extra points for guesses on his part yet to play. ~I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him, I believe Angelo’s going to continue to use him, knowing Connor’s need for Angelo’s support. Angelo will continue to take advantage of til he’s in to deep. Question 7: Attempted the beginning of the chapter Lillia describes Professor Wilkins office and says it matches his personality perfectly but doesnt go into much detail. From the things she lists what assumptions would you make about him? ~ Just me or anyone else getting book that opens a secret passage vibes from Wilkins? I’m not sure why but this guy leads me to think he’s got secrets about his secrets. I wanna know, but I also don’t 🫣 Question 8: So the worm or Noctisoma seems to trigger aggression and paranoia. While I know we aren’t disease or body specialists, any guesses on the reasoning behind this? ~ Going back to my hive mind idea, if the thing controlling the worms can use them to connect to each host. It could be using their aggression and paranoia to motive them into doing its bidding. Question 9: So here a man is being punished for theft, specifically of research. Any ideas before they tell us on how you think they found out and stopped it before he could complete the sale? We also see that execution is on the table for punishment, for the crime of stealing, is this too much? Justified? ~ There would have to be a mole, how else would they have been in time to stop it. If there wasn’t I imagine they’d have found out after the fact and ended up playing catch up. I personally don’t agree with harm coming to people. Question 10: Attempted the end of the chapter we see the execution performed. Are you suprised at the method chosen? Any other thoughts on the way they choose to dole out death? ~ As far as execution goes, this made me think of pretty little liars “two can keep a secret if one of them is dead”. I can see how someone in an extremely secret situation could think death would be the best way to insure secrets are preserved. I don’t think taking life is a form of justice. Question 11: Another day another run in with Angelo our least favorite creep. Connor still seems oblivious. Do you think he really doesnt realize? If so why? And if not why would he hide his head in the sand that way? ~Connor will continue to stay in his realm of blissful ignorance until he is literally forced out at knife point, in my opinion. His sense of obligation toward Angelo is always gonna be a sting he’s manipulated by until he sees Angelo’s darkest creepy side out right. The first time we met Connor I thought “this guy is the definition of eyes wide shut”. It feels more and more true the more we read about him. Question 12: So our guy in chapter 8 appears to have some SERIOUS issues with sex. He seems to loathe 90% of what it involves. Does it surprise you that he seeks it out so regularly anyways? Any thoughts on future reasons or insight into his touch phobia? Do you think it will cause future issues? ~ it’s not surprising to me he seeks it out, I think part of the scientific mind is largely curiosity. I really like the touch of finding work arounds to explore his curiosity, while not triggering his phobia. I could think of several future problems, what if there’s no longer cadavers? How about if it’s no longer enough? Question 13: So in chapter 10 we have an autopsy being performed. There are two interesting finds: the stench that is described as worse than anything and the striations or markings on the bone. What are your explanation/guesses for the reasoning behind them? ~ I’m guessing the worms dying off causes both. I can’t begin to understand how, and I honestly don’t want to 😅 Question 14: Here we see the worm has evolved, growing teeth. This type of evolution normally takes a very long time. Any guesses on what type of future evolution we may see? ~ I find it so odd that they got teeth. I personally was expecting more of a tadpole to frog type morph. However I guess it makes sense considering they feed off humans. Question 15: So Lippincott really really has it out for the teacher who suggested Lillia to the college Professor Langmore. Any guesses why? It would seem a drunk fail out would be below him after all. ~ I would definitely think it has to do with the secret society ties. Having a in is the most important. Even more so than all the money or even drunkenness. When it comes to the secret society it seems knowledge is power. Especially when that knowledge is life or death. I believe that’s why Bramwell withholds so much information. Question 16: So Lippincott is desperate for human trials to begin with the parasite and pur main man insists it is too early and would be irresponsible. However we know he has already been conducting them on humans in secret. Why do you think he is being so secretive abput it and also rushing the process? ~ I think it started off him redeeming his family’s reputation, then morphed into something much darker. I feel like we’re still missing a hidden part to his true motives. Question 17: So we learn that the boyfriend of the girl who dissapeared splashed acid on Doctor Death and after the incident he only got expelled. Do you find this strange? Any ideas why legal action wasnt taken? Is the story behind the scarring not accurate possibly? ~ I don’t find it strange, especially in a place where people have such extreme power over others. All it takes is one person having a benefit of expelling him and keeping it hush hush. Then it’s done. I don’t think the stories are accurate, how much can you really believe when the story isn’t coming from someone involved first hand? I would said take it with a grain of salt. Question 18: Here we learn that, before it kills, the parasite has some posative affects. From everything we know so far any guesses on how this parasite could be used by society? For good or for bad. ~ If they could find a way to limit it to removing toxins from the body then removing itself, it could cure a lot of ailments. You could also use it to drive the worst parts of people. So it would also have to be closely monitored to not be abused by bad intentions. Question 19: So when it comes to Barletta, Dr Deaths prisoner, does anything So far suprise you about him? Either before or after the parasite. ~ It’s always horrible to see those at there worst kicked while they are down. It’s almost even more traumatic to know this person could have been dynamic, with the positive effects of the parasite. Given hope then it’s snatched away. It’s so sad to know he has no future 😞 Question 20: This one is for fun. Find a picture (real, AI, artwork any will do) of our black moth friend. If you are an artist feel free to craft your own. ~ I don’t know why but I saw this one and now this is the picture I have in my head. To me it screams “Danger! Danger, Will Robinson‼️ “ Question 21: What do you think is the point in discussing somewhat top secret parasite information with students at the university? Why the NDA? What is your guess on what's so important that they must keep it so secret? ~ The NDA seems like a power move to me, they don’t want their secrets getting out. The NDA is the easiest way to keep these somewhat purposefully oblivious students from knowing too much without explaining anything they wish to keep to themselves. Question 22: So here we find out that Angelo has possibly been targeted by the schools cult group. On pure guess so you think this is in relation to Lilia or is it something else altogether. If the latter any guesses on what he did to warrant the attention? ~ I think this dude is the definition of “the ick” and he gave the wrong person that ick. Lilia is just wrapped into it unfortunately. Question 23: So Professor Gilchrist is clearly VERY jealous/threatened by Lilia being in the advanced class with Professor Bramwell. Do you think this a coincidence or do you think, regardless of them claiming not, that he has had relations with students before? ~ He doesn’t give off the “this is my whatever number student in however many years”. He doesn’t seem like the type to create a lot of vulnerability physically or other wise. I think Lilia brings out a lot of insecurities in Gilchrist. Which causes her to spiral more than necessary. Question 24: I know we are meant to be into the aloof professor but if you witnessed the conversation with him and his occasional lover what would your thoughts and attraction level be? ~ Honestly I couldn’t deal with the lack of vulnerability. He’s got walls on walls. Just the thought of it is off putting to me. I need a deep emotional connection before I begin to consider attraction. I don’t think it’s ever get there with him. Question 25: So our parasite is most active around midnight according to the school and Lilias memory. Any guesses on why this might be? ~ If it has anything to do with the host. I’d assume it’s because (usually) around midnight humans are sleeping and their bodies began a reboot cycle of all the organs as we sleep. So the parasite has a unique opportunity to attack and feed. Which it wouldn’t during the day. If it has to do with the parasite it could be that whatever is controlling/ driving them is more powerful during midnight. Or even that it’s intelligent enough to know its prey is weaker in sleep and thus more active then. Question 26: As Bramwell is looking into Lilia he talks about being inmedietly intrigued even before reading about her mother, listing her being valedictorian and lead in track and field as the reasons. However, this does seem odd as this is a school full of students who excell heavily. So what do you think really interestes him? Is it fate? The forbidden? Unusual background and story of how she ended up at the school? Or something else? ~ I think it’s her under dog story. There something about perseverance that form connection between people who share it. Bramwell seems like one of them. Also she makes more out of less, where more than 90% of her peers come from some ridiculous wealth or means. She’s a breath of fresh air in this dusty school. Question 27: Here Gilchrist has gone above Bramwells head to try and remove Lilia from his class. Do you think she will play a major problem in the future or a minor inconvenience? ~ I’m not sure to be honest, she seems set on leaning into the jealously. That being said Bramwell was blunt about her not continuing her jealous obsession with Lilia. She has to know how bad it’s going to end for her continuing to bark up this tree. Some people can’t let things go, Gilchrest for sure seems like one of those people. Question 28: So here we see the professor throwing knives and Lilia is drawn to the danger it seems. Considering how cautious she has had to be in life do you think her lack of self preservation is odd or somewhat justified? ~ It makes perfect sense to me that she has had to be super cautious, now given the chance to explore something dangerous she’s gonna be curious. If anything that’s the opposite of lack of preservation. Learning about the danger keeps you safer from it, right? Was that the right time/place, probably not. I doubt she’s gonna get a lot of others. Question 29: Here the professor has a major headache episode along with a long seizure. Any thoughts on what brings these episodes on or makes them worse? ~ What if the professor intense research on the parasite actually comes from a need to cure an illness/ genetic disease that his family has had. I’ve been wondering what his darker motive is, this could make a lot of sense especially as to why he wouldn’t want anyone else knowing. Question 30: Here we learn that Devrycks brother is now deceased and he seems very upset by it, more so than a normal death. What do you think the circumstances surrounding his death might be? ~ It makes sense Devryck would have guilt surviving their dad while his brother didn’t. I get the feeling that he tried to protect his brother at the expense of his own pain and abuse. Though it clearly wasn’t enough. So many sad situations in this book. The feelings seem to arrive by the boat load for me. Question 31: OK so this is a question about who Devryck is and how much this research means to him. His captive asks him if he will hurt his wife and son and Devryck makes a comment he has no need to and doesn't hurt children unlike him. My question is what if the parasite only grew in children's body's? Do you think he would cross that line for this research? ~ I could not see him crossing that line, the opening up of Devryck’s character made him seem a lot less sinister to me. I know there probably a bunch we still don’t know. I just don’t see him doing that, even to save his own life. I guess I lean toward hoping for the best of people. Question 32: So Jayda seems like a good friend to Lilia but what are your thoughts on her offering this website gig as an option for money? Do you think it crosses the line into bad friend territory or do you think desperate times call for desperate measures? ~ The fact that Jayda has experience with the website gig and can attest it is a safe/good option for a desperate situation. I believe she’s doing it to look out for her friend. If she didn’t know what it would be like for Lilia I think it would be different. Question 33: So we know Devryck needs human subjects for the work he is doing, and obviously feels very dedicated to it, however the conditions and such he keeps the man in are less than stellar and could be easily improved. Any thoughts on why he doesnt? ~ It could be that he feels the deserve to be punished, that his skewed perspective from his upbringing has made them evil villains in his mind. Or it could be beneficial to the parasite and his research. We need more info on the worms still. Question 34: So in some places it is legal for a site like the one Lilia is recording for to exist but in some it is not. What are your thoughts on whether or not these should exist and if so what regulations should be on them? ~ I don’t see it to be bad if the people consent and have the control over their own content. I do believe there should be security on the site for the content of each person not being sharing unwillingly, an age requirement for adults only. Also screening to make sure the people consuming the content aren’t being rude/abusive/etc. to toward the creators of said content. That’s just the bare minimum. I’m sorry Pigtail I’ve been playing catch up on a lot of things, and I only just got a chance to sit down with my thoughts on this read. I have finally had a chance to catch up my questions with my reading though! Hooray 🥳 I’ll post Part 2 later today, and I’ll mark on my calendar to ensure I check in weekly from now on. SquirtleSquad Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago Part 2: Spoiler Question 35: What are your thoughts on Devryck getting Lilias video taken down? Sweet and wonderful? The actions of someone who money comes easy to? Intrusive and too far? ~ I’d say it’s too far, this level of controlling without it being asked for is not for me. It shouldn’t be any of his business what she does with herself, especially when she is doing it to take care of herself. It’s one of those “she didn’t ask for your help, sit down Batman” kind of situations. Question 36: Are you suprised Lilia didn't jump at the money the video made? What do you think she will do to earn the money she needs since she seems to refuse to transfer the video money? ~ I would say that making money in a way that shares such an intimate part of yourself can be hard for certain types of people. Also there could be many other things at play; confidence, reputation, self image, even self worth. I don’t think she should continue this, but I do think that is her choice to make for herself. As far as what she could do, I would imagine some of these rich kids are willing to spend their money on tutoring. I know it won’t make as much, but it’s a start and every bit counts when you really need it. Question 37: Are you suprised Lilia hands over her phone to Devryck no questions asked? ~ No I’m not surprised, there is definitely a power imbalance between them. Whether it be the knowledge and opportunities he has, that she crave. Or the years of life he has had that she hasn’t. She views him as a crucial part of what she’ll get out of being at the school. So of course she’s gonna apease him, to not lose him as a resource. Question 38: What do you think Lilias reaction will be when she learns of Devrycks connection with her mother? ~ She will probably find out and hold on to the information until she can use it in a way that benefits her. To me it seems like she already has an idea, and it’s driving her to get deeper involved to learn more. Question 39: Lippincott is freaking put about Lilia, do you think he will take matters into his own hands? Is Lilia in more danger than anyone realizes? ~ He will definitely take matters into his own hands and deal with Lippincott. He does not give the impression that he’ll allow her to get to the point where she takes her feelings out on Lilia. I think he will make sure Lilia is always ok. Bare minimum he’s doing it to have control over Lilia, if not some dark ulterior motive. Question 40: Here we learn of Angelos involvement with Devrycks brother. Do you think this is coincidence or is it all interconnected somehow? ~This has to be connected, I wouldn’t be surprised if Angelo’s icky-ness didn’t have a negative effect that got Devryck’s brother killed in some way. However if that is the case, I’d be shocked Devryck hasn’t tried to retaliate for Angelo’s involvement. I could see Devryck having a master plan that leaves Angelo being tortured in the end, if he was a cause of his brother’s death in anyway. Question 41: So Mel is and always has given Lilia ALOT of highly sensitive info. Do you find this weird? Why do you think she does this? ~ I think the “odd one out” feeling they both have had, bonded them in a “I’m on survivor” kind of way. What I mean by that is, you don’t truly know how pure the bond is until it’s ultimately tested. They both needed to find someone who understands them to ally with in a school full of the opposite kind of people to them. To which they could have each other’s back or one could end up blindsiding the other. I think their bond while seeming a pure one, has the potential to be abused if push comes to shove. To me it feels like a connection of convenience, also out of necessity. Not necessarily out of kinship, that would persevere throughout being tested. Question 42: Here we meet the Anon Amos. In your opinion what are the chances that the secret death group of the university dont know about them and their going ons? ~ Slim to none, to me they have to be connected somehow. I’d really like to know how too. It really seems the secret death group has people everywhere acting as intel gathers. Question 43: So at this point there isnt really anything tangible to be gained from the answers Lilia seeks. Except truths obviously. Is this something you would pursue in her case? With the obvious risks and also lack of much to be gained. ~ I wish I could say no, because cost definitely isn’t worth the risk and possible gain. However I’m incredibly stubborn and don’t let things go easily, so I would likely continue until I got the truths I seek. Question 44: So all the original subjects for the testing back in Bramwells fathers time were female. Is this an important piece you think to the study? Why all females? ~ I don’t think it’s that important because the research clearly works with men too. This just shows us that something drove Bramwell’s father to test on woman rather than men. Maybe the overall sense that woman were less likely to be noticed missing at that time, or that he was looking for information to help his wife so he wanted to test on woman. It could even be nefarious that he’s disgusting and enjoyed hurting weaker smaller humans than him, like he abused his kids. Question 45: Bramwell would have been 13 or 14 at the time of the study. Do you think there is a chance he has info on Lilias mother? Maybe even accidentally met her? ~ Yes, I think he has some information considering he took over his dad’s research even with limited access to the work his dad did. If he didn’t meet her, he should have known of her. What he’ll do with his information, I’m still not sure. But I’m assuming he’s gonna leverage it to get what he wants. I have so many questions I wish I could answer. Where is the author gonna go from here? Is Lilia gonna be a fetus born from a woman who was a part of the worm parasite trials? Thus making her some kind of cure or even adaptation able to live with the parasite?? I need more information!! Question 46: We are getting more glimpses at the life when Lilias mom was alive. Do you find it hard to fit Conor into these? Why might she have picked him? Was he a different guy back then? ~ This has me so confused honestly, I can’t picture Connor in that time knowing him now. It’s clear her mom wanted to get away, so I would assume that’s why. It’s hard to escape a world like this especially with a baby, so help seemed needed. I don’t think it mattered who it was.
