BAD. well its okay actually, but its also bad lol!! so the book starts off with a young woman looking for a dom on a fetish dating site, all is well, all is good, when she comes across a domme called Mama P, its been a while since i read it, I think thats what her username was. Anyway, they get to talking, they meet, blah blah blah, at some point they have their first playdate, i wont get too into it in case someone wants to read this. but someone just does something so.. EGREGIOUS and downright DIABOLICAL, I GENUINELY HAD TO DOUBLE TAKE. I put down the book... I clasped my hands together... and I shit you not, I prayed. I prayed that what was happening wasn't actually written - well it was! So here I am thinking, "wow id react like that too if someone did that in my house", WHEN SOMEONE.. SOMEONE DECIDES THAT THE PERFECTLY VALID REACTION WARRANTS A PUNISHMENT. EXCUSE ME??? How warped does your sense of reality have to be, to consider the domme to be in the right, how deranged does one have to be... to decide that "hm well! this is a good teaching moment and not something possibly traumatic! :3" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! The domme was the largest most vivid red flag of the book and I could never imagine myself feeling safe with someone like this to be perfectly honest. BECAUSE SHE DOESNT DO THIS JSUT ONCE. SHE DOES IT TWICE. the second time isnt a punishment, but she just crosses a boundary that's so insane and she reacts so inappropriately to a situation that requires support and careful attention, like why is the sub being treated like a tradable item? hello! overall... solid 4/10 - out of the most popular mdlg books out there, this is one of the most popular and it's fine, but I've read better AO3 fanfics which i will DEFINITELY recommend in another topic, it's so good it totally redefined my perception of love and im sure everyone will LOVE it. From the smut, to the setting, to the plot, to the characters- MWAH. chefs kiss. I reread it constantly. but yeah, the characters in At her feet where pretty okay, i thought there were some funny moments, decent smut, but overall the consent issues made me stare into the distance like a shellshocked soldier.
