Prey of the Dark, Predator of Light.

The sun sets over the cityscape,

The clouds stumble over the buildings,

The stars cower in their naked state.

The street lights illuminate a path,

There's a surprise around every corner.

My heart races as I traverse the empty city,

Searching for something I know nothing about.

I'm burdened by a crushing sense of immediacy,

The shadows leap at my heels.

Tragically, I never find what I look for.

Exploring these familiar alleys is futile.

Every morning my memory fades,

Rescinding in the retreating shadows,

Even as they slink away.

The sun peaks over the buildings,

Slipping around the towering freaks.

Tonight is not the night that I finish my quest.

Perhaps someday in the future I will find it.

Yet I know not what I look for.
