Preferred Area of Study. [NSFW Prose]

i posted this once before, but then i totally chickened out & deleted it almost a half hour later. no better time to try again! 

 

make me your excavation site. 

pry open my rib cage to lift my heart in your deft & careful hands 

like a ceremonial sacrifice. 

play doctor to make it beat in time with yours. 

dust the insecurities off my brittle bones with fingers

taught not to break the fragile structure, & breathe

the warmth of exploration into my remains. 

uncover what is left of my hopes & dreams, & help me

preserve it in story & song.

don't let me forget where i come from. 

 

make me your specialization. 

learn me, bent over the apex of my legs like a scholar

over a textbook in a dusty library & run your fingers

over my goosebumps on my spine. 

read my trepidation & fear, highlighting the passages

that boast of qualities & achievements i'd forgotten about. 

cite your source material to empower me. 

do not turn away when the subject becomes heavier & don't

be afraid to reread the complicated parts a few times. 

 

make me your dissertation, your thesis. 

split me open & memorize me so you can recite me in your sleep

into the shell of my ear, panting until my climax becomes biblical. 

take some extra courses in anatomy to better understand the way

my back arches, some advanced algebra to measure the magnitude

of my cries of your name, & music theory to make me into your 

magnum opus. 

 

i want to be more than your favorite extracurricular activity, or pastime. 

i want to be your preferred area of study.

Poetry is one of those things that either you can or you can't.  That you read it and it pulls you in or just scratch your head and wonder what !!!  This poem is like your life in its complex, but also simple to understand at times.  You are like this poem, as it takes a bit of study to know you and enjoy the things that make you the unique you that you are.  I enjoyed this and thanks for not bailing out this time.
