disney little Posted August 18, 2019 Report Posted August 18, 2019 So i'm more then sure that there are more post about this, but I couldn't really find things about dorm life. So i'm currently in college and have a dorm that I move in and move out of every school year. My parents always help me move, so i'm always worried about hiding things and they end up finding them during moving. i'm just not ready to explain myself to my parents yet. So can anyone suggest ideas of where i might be able to hide some things so i can still have my comforting little space things? I already have stuffies i play with a lot and say they are from friends. But I really want like pacis and bottles. and cute little outfits. Also, is there any websites or shops out there that will send non-labeled boxes? If i get clothing or something for little space, I usually have to get it through online. However, because I don't want to have that conversation yet, I would need a box that doesn't say where it has come from. thanks so much for any suggestions!!. ~mousy mouse
ScarletBaby Posted August 18, 2019 Report Posted August 18, 2019 Using a backpack and putting like a handheld game system or sim in it too might help. That way you can keep it with you in the car and immediately take it yourself. Then set it on your bed. Carry on things are usually last to be unpacked so usually they should be left alone.
disney little Posted August 18, 2019 Author Report Posted August 18, 2019 thats a really good idea thank you! i will have to try that!
Guest SheepishPrince Posted August 19, 2019 Report Posted August 19, 2019 maybe pack a box of all your little things before with a few other boxes and say that you started early, then say you can finish unpacking by yourself and unpack the little box!
Stutters Posted August 21, 2019 Report Posted August 21, 2019 If you order anything from Amazon, they have a service called "Amazon Locker" for items purchased through Amazon.com. This is kind of like a temporary PO box that uses a code to open. I’ve seen those at Whole Foods. About hiding your stuff, you could have a “college stuff box”. In which you have books and materials. At the bottom of the Box you can keep your pacifiers and outfits in a bag. Hope those helps.
MylovesPrincess Posted August 28, 2019 Report Posted August 28, 2019 I'm a mom, and I don't understand why parents go through their older childrens things. That bothers me a lot.
BabyMattDiapers Posted September 3, 2019 Report Posted September 3, 2019 I appreciate everything you have shared in this post so much. It can be very hard to keep secret those things you are not comfortable sharing with your loved ones, so I very much appreciate what you have shared here and thank you for being so open and vulnerable in this space. I really think that putting items in the bottom of boxes labelled "college stuff" is a great idea. It is a bit invasive into your privacy as an older child/adult but best to cover yourself if they are helping you, so even packing the stuff up earlier and labeling it something like "bedroom stuff" or something generic should keep them from asking any questions about it. In terms of online purchases, I have found that the websites like Abu.com, Tykables.com, Rearz.ca and other little/baby space item selling websites are very discreet when it comes to their shipping practices and do not disclose any of the contents of the package on the external packaging. I have done purchasing through Amazon and have found that some times Amazon can be indiscreet but is discreet for the most part. Generally most websites you purchase from give you at least an option to have the contents anonymous so purchasing online is typically safe. I hope this helps you.
disney little Posted September 10, 2019 Author Report Posted September 10, 2019 I'm a mom, and I don't understand why parents go through their older childrens things. That bothers me a lot. They don't go through my stuff at all and I'm sorry if i gave that impression. All they do is help me pack all the things in my dorm room. Which isn't a lot of stuff but definitely takes more then two people. (at most, it's only two boxes of stuff and my bedding.) most of the things being small items that have to be placed inside the boxes. This is the only reason why they would know what is in my room. It's because they help me pack very single thing, for four years, so i don't get charged for leaving something behind. I do think parents that search through their grown kids stuff is unacceptable, but that is not something they do. They are simply helping me out. It made me teary-eyed because it is rough not letting them know a part of my life. I'm just not ready for it. so thank you for your support I'll definitely check out those websites! and great idea as well to keep the stuff secret. I'm going to try a couple things and see how it goes. Hopefully, all will work out.
