Capri Posted January 25, 2024 Report Posted January 25, 2024 Without intentionally wanting to be I slipped into littlespace the other day and I'm nervous about it happening again. Has anyone had similar experiences? I don't know how to prevent it from happening next time. Confession time: It happened at the dentist of all places. I was so scared of a long procedure but the dentist helped calm me down and talked me through the whole process. "The numbing shot will hurt just a pinch" Asking "Are you okay?" in between drilling but I couldn't talk just uh huh "You're doing good." "Turn your head this way for me. Perfect." He wiped my face gently when water spilled out and I think my mind nearly spilled out then too. I felt like a baby. When he was putting pressure on the tooth with his finger I kept thinking "girl do not suck his finger don't do it.." thank goodness I didn't or I would've been mortified. I really hope he didn't notice but gah it's so embarrassing! I wanted to hide under a rock. Couldn't tell anyone about it either since no one knows I'm a little irl. Is there a way to prevent slipping or am I cursed? 1 1
Guest RaawrrrPincess Posted January 25, 2024 Report Posted January 25, 2024 I think it's a pretty common thing to happen and everyone is different. I haven't figured out how to stop it from happening but I don't really try either. I just kinda find ways to manage and cope with it if it happens at an inappropriate time. I use objects that appeal to my senses, I keep a stuffie in my pocket ( it's very soft and small) and a pacifier on me at all times. But something as simple as a piece of candy could work too. The sound of someone's voice, someone I trust, works too. You can save voice-mails or keep audio files or even just call the person if you can. Hope this helps!
GrampyP Posted January 25, 2024 Report Posted January 25, 2024 Thanks for sharing, that is sooo adorable! I understand the possible awkwardness but you and he did really well. 1

Keeping a small pocket stuffie is such a good idea thank you!

Baby Girl Miss Amanda Posted February 2, 2024 Report Posted February 2, 2024 I've slipped when in pain at doctor appointments too. I get shots in my hands for carpal tunnel and arthritis and the doctors talk to me in a calm, gentle voice to help me feel safe and little. I also have a problem with my feet and they get fractures a lot, so I get x-rays, and wear boots frequently. Sometime I even need surgery. So pain is part of my life. I wear leggings and cute dresses or my hair in a cute way to help me feel cute when I go to the doctor, so when they do talk to me I can calm down quickly and not panic. I take mints along to suck on when I want my paci and have a small stuffie and a little kid word search in my backpack to work on while I wait for tests and stuff. 1 1
