I ask this because I was raised my whole life to feel like i am selfish for wanting love and attention and to always put others first and to never put yourself in a position of giving yourself boundaries and wants 1

It takes time to unlearn traits that were forced wrongly upon us, and I'm so sorry you had to go through any of that. Asking for attention or if you need help doesn't make you selfish or bad, it just simply shows other you trust them and enjoy their company. 2

I ask this because I was raised my whole life to feel like i am selfish for wanting love and attention and to always put others first and to never put yourself in a position of giving yourself boundaries and wants The answer differs for everyone, but for me, I still have that fear (old habits die hard😭💔), but I've learned to love myself enough to understand that someone who loves me and WANTS to spend time with me will be okay with me asking for more attention🫡 sometimes they will be busy or they might not be able to and then I will learn to be okay with that and if they really love me/you, they will also try to help you feel better when they can❤️ However, if they're busy TOO much or there's always an excuse to not give you/me the attention you/I need then the relationship won't work out as both sides will probably get hurt so it's best to end that quickly.... So hmmm I guess it's kind of a test of if the dynamic/relationship will work? If they can't-because they don't have your best intentions at heart or simply they're unable to, then that kind of shows that it won't work. 😭I know I get sour if a person starts being inexplicably distant or having a lot of excuses to not give me attention (it's a defense mechanism T-T, I have some trust issues), so to kind of protect them from that side of me I kind of just nip the relationship in the bud before that can happen if I realise they're a really busy person or they're unable to give me the amount of attention I need. 🫡Although that kind of sounds unhealthy, but I swear it works for me, after all if they still try after that then it's worth giving them a shot. So in summary T-T, if I need more attention in a dynamic, I will probably mention it the first 3 times (maybe 4 even), but afterwards if it doesn't really seem like they're making much of an effort to spend more time with me then🫡I pretty moch start withdrawing, because I hate being a nag and I kind of get hurt if they haven't realized I need more attention, because to me that means they weren't listening or it wasn't really that important to them. Plus one of my deepest fears is becoming that stereotypical nagging wife T-T. So anyways I just know that in my heart of hearts, if someone asked me about 3-4 times for something, I PROBABLY would be making a big effort to do it for them and I would be making an EVEN BIGGER effort to do it in a way that they don't feel bad and it's completely on me and because I want to. So if a person who says that they care about me can't even make the small effort for me to see that they're TRYING for me... 🫡Then it's not really a person I want to be with. 😭💔Besides, again, as I said.... I know I get sour and turn into a crazy sassy dragon when I give a person too much of the benefit of doubt and let them disappoint me.... And I don't want to be that dragon🫡even for a person who might be a super bad person! Cos I imagine a bad ex being able to tell a bad story about me and the people pleaser in me who needs the external validation of the public cannauwt let that happen😤 Some sort of useful and practical tips after my amazingly rambly storytelling skills: - Try to think of traits about yourself that are lovable! Even if you worry that other people don't like it, do YOU like it? Then why wouldn't a person want to spend time with a person who does that?! It's so lovable! For example🫡 I know I'm silly and I love silly people so I love it about me. I fear that people won't like me cos I'm silly.... But since I like silly people, I would spend time with myself😤and just knowing that certain things about myself are likable, adleast to myself, make me feel a bit more confident that I AM likable and that I CAN ask for more attention, because.... I'm likable.... So I can get away with it muehehehe😋 - Being scared to ask someone for attention is because you're scared it will cause a negative reaction and that they'll possibly leave... Welllll, would you want to be with someone who only likes you when you're a version of yourself that is sad or scared? No! 😤I definitely would not want you to be with someone like that, so hmmmm try to think of your happiness. That's probably a hard ask if you need advice😔(because you've probably already thought of thatttt), but think how much better of a relationship/dynamic you will be in if the person DOES try. Think of the positive outcomes! If it's a negative outcome then that person probably does not deserve you honey.... -It' s kind of a leap of faith thing. It definitely takes strength too. I know the first times I ask a person for more attention, I'm really scared-sometimes the person can help that immediately and then I feel really relieved and happy and kind of more confident that it's okay if I need to ask them again. If I'm scared that I'm asking too much, I'll probably mention that to them, because communication is key to any healthy dynamic/relationship! And if they can help ease your concerns about asking then they're a good person❤️ if they say some not so smart junk about how asking for attention bothers them.... Run as fast as you can, it's a red flag😭 I try to think of how I would respond in certain situations(not that I'm a narcissist or the greenest of flags) and I can definitely not imagine me telling someone that them ASKING for something bothers me (well I mean....... 🌚there's one or two things that are exceptions to that rule), because you can always say no! I think they teach that in first grade. But yeah, someone merely asking for attention definitely does not seem like something that could bother me🫡 if they demand attention and force me to stop other important things to give them attention then🥲that's dictatorship. So asking is fine😤and talking is always fine! Sometimes peeps won't be able to respond immediately, but that's okay❤️ (this tip is just, try to put yourself in their shoes and think about how YOU would respond) - Healthy relationships are always about compromise! 😤Think, are you the only one compromising? If so, the person can adleast compromise and give you more attention! If not, as your internet advisor, I say they still have to give you more attention😤 attention is probably one of the easiest currencies of love to give! I mean, people scroll their attention away everyday on social media (I know I do😔), so sending a text message or spending a few minutes with a person is probably no big deal. And if it's a person you care about? It's pretty moch a reward, so I make my case.... Attention is the easiest thing a person can give in a relationship/dynamic. (this tip is just me saying.... It's okay, human, you're not asking them for a yacht or a planet named after you (I think this is expensive, but I don't quite remember....), you're asking them to exchange some carbon dioxide for oxygen with the planet whilst talking to you. It's very easy, I'm doing that right now T-T) -one last tip cos the other two were not tips (disclaimer: this also isn't really a tip) is Just Do It! Try it once. As I said, it's a leap of faith thing, but it's also a practice thing. You need to do it over and over, kind of like learning to walk, for the fear to kind of subside. Maybe imagine yourself stomping on the fear before asking them. Say "No!" to that pesky belief/weight/burden your family gave you😤(no hate to them unless they deserve it😔💔) You are not selfish for wanting love❤️ EVERYONE wants love! And you deserve the love you want! 😤 You deserve the love YOU give, because I bet you give super high quality love! I hope you save some high quality love for yourself too, stranger and good luck with your venture! ❤️ P. S. Super sorry if I came on strong in here.... 😭It just upsets me that you feel selfish for wanting love, even though you recognise it as a learned behaviour and something you want to change, I just really hope my words helped you feel a bit more confident that it's not the case! That you're not selfish for it😤 it's completely natural (literally everything on the planet probably wants to be loved. Animals want love and plants grow better when they're spoken to nicely and etc.). Oo ya, and you can try affirming that it's so okay! I definitely needed this one today. I have so much to be proud of myself for right now but I felt myself falling down into that rabbit hole of "you need to do this/that better".
