Poppy's Summer Challenge Badge

USA, EUROPE AND OTHER COUNTRIES WITH THE SAME SEASONS. 

New seasonal challenge is here! I hope everyone enjoys it and has fun!

If you weren't able to do the Spring one. No worries! It'll come back around come spring and you can start doing the challenge now! 

* Complete as many as possible.  You have 3 months to complete this challenge. 

* I have come up with ideas for those of us that can't do or aren't near some of the activities given. 

* Unless one of the activities says to "Earn a badge",  this go around, other badges will not count towards these seasonal badges. 

* Pictures as proof. As usual. Only if it is a craft type thing, a paragraph or you go somewhere.

If not able to take a picture, just state what you did instead.

* If a story or paragraph is required for a badge, you may write it and take a picture. You do not have to write it out in here unless you want too.  

* Sign offs are as usual. A leader must sign off on everything.  

* Any questions please ask! And also, just have fun! 

Here are a few alternatives to some of the activities:

* Draw or make a ferris wheel. Use construction paper, pipe cleaners, buttons, whatever your imagination leads you to!

* Dancing is a single person thing for me. I love dancing with Daddy, but i like the faster type music instead! Soooooo dance to your hearts content by yourself. Mention some songs you like.

* Swimming pool, lake, ocean, river or... Tub! Do you!

*You can make a pillow instead of the sit upon if you like.

* If physically unable to hopscotch or just can't, maybe play cars, jacks, or something that would be easier. If at a park maybe ride the merry go round or swing !

* If you can't get to a beach or lake, as before mentioned, a pool (even a kiddie pool), river, or your tub. Use your bath toys and have fun!

* A barbeque, fire pit could do

* bike ride aren't feasible for everyone, so a car ride or scooter would do

* Watch a concert in TV instead

The Best Summer Day Ever

One ___Sunny_______ (adjective) summer morning, I woke up and discovered a __Turtle________ (animal) sitting outside my window!

“Today is the perfect day to go to ____Park______ (place)!” it said.

I packed some ____cotton candy______ (food), put on ____dress______ (something you wear), and headed outside.

When we arrived, there were _____25_____ (number) people ____swimming______ (verb ending in -ing)! Suddenly, a giant wave splashed me right in the ___hair_______ (body part).

It was SO ___beautiful_______ (adjective)!

Then we found a bucket filled with __friends________ (plural noun). My friend __Poppy________ (person’s name) yelled, “Quick! We have to ___talk_______ (verb)!”

Learn about Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy is a plant that grows in the US. It has an oily substance called urushiol that causes an itchy, red, blistering rash in sensitive people. Washing exposed skin as soon as possible is the best way to minimize the rash. It has 3 leaves, so people say, “Leaves of three, let it be!” Stay away from poison ivy… It can grow along the ground, as a bushy plant or as a climbing vine.

 

Go to an Over Nighter

I had 27 over nighters in a hotel at Mayo Clinic this summer!

 

Eat Ice Cream

Go on a Bike Ride

-          I rode my recumbent bike many times this summer and watched outside the window as I rode.

 

Water Plants

Here's the plant I got at the farmer's market and have been loving on all summer

Learn about Bugs

-          A true insect has 6 legs, 3 body parts (head, thorax, and abdomen), and 2 antennae, an exoskeleton and some have wings.

-          Bugs are super annoying, but super necessary for our environment

-          Bees and butterflies pollinate flowers and plants that make fruit and seeds.

-          Lady bugs eat aphids and tiny pests that hurt plants.

-          Decomposers break down dead plans and animals.

-          Caterpillars become moths or butterflies and they are sometimes food for birds

 

Make a Friendship Bracelet

Identify a Tree

-          We have a lot of evergreens in our area

 

Have Fun with Glow Sticks

-          Did this with my kiddos at the hotel…

 

Wear Sun Screen

-          When I went swimming I used lotsa sunscreen, but every day I put some on in the morning.

 

Go to a Street Fair – Farmer’s Market

-          I went to the Farmer’s Market in Rochester when I was there and the local one

 

Donate School Supplies

-          I am donating toys and books to the preschool - not done yet

 

Have a Picnic

-          We at lunch outside on a blanket on the front porch.

 

Clean Up After Dinner
